Hi.  I am currently using a pair of zeiss victory 10x40 binos.  These are the generation before the FL's.  I use them primarily for deer hunting (highly wooded) and night coyote hunting.  Lately I have been thinking about getting something with a little less mag to increase my exit pupil and field of view.  I have heard really good things the Hawke ED (8x43).  My main consideration light gathering for coyote hunting at night.  The ziess' are really good at night but I am always looking for better.  I know compairing zeiss to zeiss, the extra exit pupil will give me more light at night, but what about zeiss vs hawke.  does the better glass of the zeiss make up for the higher exit pupil of the hawke?  Unfortunately I can't afford both.  If I get the hawkes, the zeiss would have to go.  Thanks for any input.  Mike

The Zeiss's ability to resolve your target will more than make up any small difference in exit pupil the Hawks may have.

I agree with 'dood.....not worth the trouble.  The Zeiss has world class glass already.

It's going to be hard to match the zeiss glass you have without droping a bundle, take a look at the Vortex line from the viper on up.The razor are getting rave reviews by those in the know how!
