Hey guys.

I was building my first scoped rifle a couple months ago and got alot of info here, thought I would ask again.

I have been shooting the rifle for about 2 months or so now. Have shot about 60 rounds through it. I get good groups, but the zero climbs on me. I have taken it to the same range 4 times now. And twice I have had to re-zero the elevation, down 1 moa once and down 1-1/4 again yesterday. The windage stays true.

Are the rings moving or something? Or is something moving that shouldn't? Or is it the weather? I don't know if this will level out and stop eventually or if I need different rings or what is going on.

Gear: ss 10x, leupold standard rings/base, rem 700 w/glass bedded action and floated heavy barrel.

Temperature can be the cause, but that would indicate about a 30 deg UP temp change from when you zeroed.  Humidity and altitude are also factors.  Are you shooting at the same shooting range?

You need to keep track of the "variables" each time you shoot.  Hard to make an assessment based upon the limited information you provided.  Check your mount screws and ring screws, but if your differential is "constant" that does not seem like what the problem might be.

The temp outside has changed since the first time it was zeroed. A couple months ago it was about 60-65 degrees out the first day I took it out. Yesterday it was mid 80s out. I live in high altitude, 2500 ft, but the gun has stayed here at this elevation the whole time.

You think that temp change would have caused 2 moa rise on my zero? That must be what is wrong if the temp can cause that. I am new to scoped shooting.

Can the rings flex at all? I know the screws are tight. I did not locktite them or anything, but they have some good torque on em. Will wider rings that have 4-6 screws on them instead of 2 make a difference or not?

Other than the temp. everything is the same. same ammo, same range, think I have even sat at the same bench every time.

Reegan,

You can check the scope and ring contact by placing some tape or sticker that will stay on the scope without falling off just touching the aft face of one of the rings then after shooting check the tape to see if it has a space or if it "bunched up" that will tell you if the scope is moving in the rings due to recoil or the scope is moving in the rings due to the rings "rocking on the base".
