Would you lose any low light performance between a Diavari Victory 3-12x56 vs. Diavari Victory 6-24x56 ?

I don't mind the extra weight of the 6-24 ...........would there really be any other disadvantages to it for deer hunting in the South ??

I would go with the 3-12X56 between these two.  I personally don't want my low end magnification to be greater than 4X on any big game hunting scope.  For close quarters hunting in the thick stuff, you need field of view more than you need magnification, and you are handicapped in that situation if the lowest power you have is 6X.  To answer your question, no, you won't lose low light performance with the higher magnification scope at the same powers, but beyond 12X on the 6-24X56, what you gain in terms of resolving power is somewhat offset by the fact that you are losing exit pupil, making the image dimmer.  The maximum magnification on either scope where you are maximizing the light transmission is 8X, where you have a 7mm exit pupil.  Beyond that, light transmission through the scope steadily lessens as you go up in magnification.

I've never seen a deer hunting situation where I've even needed 12X, much less 24X.  For shots up to about 400 yards, 10X is all you need.  I personally wouldn't get either scope for a deer rifle.  I would save some money and instead get the 2.5-10X42 or 2.5-10X50 Victory.  I don't like hunting scopes with objective lens diameters larger than 50mm because you have to mount the scope so high, and if you have good optics to begin with, you gain very little real world low light advantage with the extra 6mm objective diameter.  Maybe the extra weight of the 6-24 doesn't bother you, but it sure makes your rifle more bulky in gun cases and scabbards, extra bulk tends to hang up on vegetation and other stuff while out hunting, and it gives the rifle you mount it to a top heavy balance, not to mention, it may look out of proportion to some rifles.

More isn't necessarily better.

But, that's me...
