August issue of Outdoor Life did a review on a number of scopes. I was surprised by the marks and comments regarding the Zeiss Victory Diavari T 3-12x56:
low light performance: C "low-light performance was a bit disappointing, given the huge, light hungry objective lens" (isn't objective lens diameter irrelevant here?)
Image: B+ Design: A
The editor's choise for scope was the Swaovsk Z6i 3-18x50
Any thoughts on this?

Because of sample-to-sample variation the reviewer probably got a bad scope or forgot to put right focusing setting.
Zeiss Diavari is a superb scope.

The aritcle was written by Andrew McKean, along with field testers Bill McRae, John Taranto and Keith Balfourd.

I think OL has some of the lousiest reviews I've ever seen. Their "reviews" usually consist of 3-5 sentences of very general information that doesn't give the reader much to go by in making a buying decision. They rarely explain how they arrived at their rankings or go into any detail about their test criteria at all. This isn't to say their observations are necessarily wrong; they just provide very little explanation of how products received the scores they gave them.

I havn't a slightest clue on who the actual people behind Outdoor Life optics reviews are, but from what I have seen so far, if their reviews are ever accurate it is purely due to random chance.

in 2006 the diavari 2.5-10x42 didnt recieve a high mark in low light. some years before that the S&B zenith had a lower score in low light than a BSA scope. All those were outdoor life tests. The magazine and the tests are a joke

Sure wouldn't keep me from getting one if I wanted to. Besides, I'd rely on the pros HERE for advice / recommendation before any magazine folks.
