I have never owned either brand before. I am looking at their 1.1-4X24 scopes with the #4a reticle. There is a large difference in price. Is the zeiss really that ;much better. $800 better?

The Zeiss is a red dot scope.

Looks like a $441 difference to me.

New Zeiss 1.5-6x42 Diavari VM/V 30mm..... $1379.95

Kahles 1.5-6x42 European 30mm..... $938.95

You're looking at the illuminated Zeiss. The illumination is another 400 or so.

ranburr correctly pointed out that I was comparing a non-illuminted Kahles with an illuminated Zeiss. I guess I was getting punchy from all the choices.  I finally decided and got the Kahles 1.1-4X24 w/4a reticle. It's for a dg rifle in 375H&H. I am not a fan of illuminated scopes on heavy recoiling rifles.  Nor am I a fan of seeing a scope full of some anoymous, portion of large critter at 20 feet.
