Just purchased a Zeiss 4-16x50 Victory FL,I was wondering if anybody might have had a chance to compare these two optics. From what I can gather both scope glass are Fl but the Hensdolt has a stonger coating on it.

RC I know you have a Hensoldt & I know Ilya has played with both,I'm just a little curious what the difference's might be?

I have compared the new 6-24 FL with my 3-12.  Glass was very, very similar, Hensoldt was a little easier to get sight picture.

I didn't care for the new Zeiss turrets, the locking mechanism just didn't agree with me.

As for glass, they are very close.  The differences are more about intended purpose than they are about build quality or glass quality.

Thanks RC,I didn't get a chance to compare the two side by side.I agree with you about the turrets as a matter of fact I just sent it back to Zeiss on Tuesday to have a retro fit with the target turrets, hope this helps!

I'm also having a Kenton turret made so I can use it in place of the Rapid Z 800 for my Remmy R5mil spec in .308.I had liked the FL glass that much I just would'nt give up the scope.

The Rapid Z 1000 is made for the .308 but I would have had to deal with a 56mm bell.My basic use will only be shooting out to 400 yds[papper, meat & ego].

I have both scopes, the Hensoldt 4x16 FF and the Zeiss Diavari FL 4x16 FL.  They must have different design teams working in Optronics vs the Zeiss Sports Optics division.  The Hensoldt is designed much more to my liking.  The target acquisition is much more precise and easier on the Hensoldt than the Zeiss Diavari.  If I had to do it again I would of bought another Hensoldt for my Winchester Model 70 instead of the Diavari.  Now I have to make do with the Diavari.

bugnbows,

The problem is these scopes aren't easy to find and test drive before you buy, especially in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia.  You have to go based on what the forums say, like this one.  Then you order on the internet at your favorite scope dealer.  I thought, since I had a Hensoldt, that the Zeiss, being made by the same company would have similar design features.  It is now obvious, the Zeiss Optronics Design Team at Zeiss is a different design team than the Zeiss Sports Optics Team.  Everybody is in awe of this scope and it is a nice scope.  I just don't like the turrets.  I will send back to Zeiss for a change out to tactical(target) turrets.

Phil

The Hensoldt has diifferent coatings, different internal gases, different, beefier internal parts; all the parts and subassemblies of the Hensoldt are built to Mil Spec standards.  The Hensoldt was built with a military mission/use in mind; the Zeiss Victory FL line is a sporting optic.  The Hensoldt image "pops" more brilliantly that the Zeiss Victory to my eye.  I own the 6-24x72 Hensoldt.  The Hensoldt is kinda sorta like the Victory on steroids.

I have the 6-24x72 Hensoldt, as well.  Love it.  I would PREFER FFP, but SFP has some nice things about it, as well.  I'm learning to do the math at 6, 12, 24, which makes some things pretty darned good.  Everything else is a cut above everything else...
