How much clearer, brighter, and better is the glass on a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20X-50mm compared to a Leupold Mark 4, 8.5-25X-50mm LR/T ? I realize there is a tube diameter difference between the two.

Tough to answer, you kinda need to put them side-by-side.

I'd take the Zeiss over the Leupy all day long - but know shooters whom I respect that would say the opposite.

Let me put it this way. Will I see a noticeable difference looking through the Zeiss compared to my Mark 4?

the Leupold mark 4 glass, while not bad at all, is not up to par w/ the conquest glass, IMO.

the 30mm tube has no bearing in the brightness of a scope, only range of adjustment.

people like the mark 4 leupy for sharpshooting, and there is a CULT following - there is certainly nothing WRONG w/ the scope.

i just think that zeiss, even in the conquest line, boasts superior glass. BUT, if something has a cult following by reputable shooters,
you can't really discount that.

pick one - if there isn't a dawn/dusk shooting factor, pick the one that best fists your eye and rifle.

if lowlight is a factor, i would lean towards the zeiss.  have you looked at IOR tacticals? if not, you should.

the reticles are very very neat.

good luck - and let us know what you settle on.

thanks

J

Well, I already have the Mark 4 (above) on my Sako Varmint (heavy bbl) in .243 Win. (strickly a ground hog rifle) But I was considering selling it and going with the Zeiss.(we do shoot at the dirt pigs out to 1000 yards) After being educated by the optic experts on this forum, I am no longer in the "Leupold cult."

are you dissatisfied with your Mark 4?   I wouldn't sell it until you have a chance to compare it to a Conquest.
