I'm thinking about selling my Zeiss 2.5-10X50 Diavari V and buying a Nightforce NXS 3.5-15X50 for the durability assurance.

How does the Nightforce glass compare to the Zeiss glass?
I know the Zeiss glass is the top rated, but How close is the Nightforce? Clarity/Sharpness/Detail/Distortion/Brightness ect.

Would I be making a big mistake?

What are you going to use it for, hunting, long range, targets, etc.??

I'd keep the Zeiss but that's because I'm a hunter and that's what mainly I'd be using it for. It's simple and I think you already know how good it is. Wink

If you could swing it, keep the Zeiss and get the Nightforce you'd have the best of both worlds; one of the best hunting scopes and an excellent tactical scope.

It'll be used for deer hunting. Short, long range and some target shooting out to 600 yrds or so. 300WM.
I've lost confidence in my Zeiss since it apparently cannot hold zero. I have 5" groups at 100yrds with a Krieger barrel, McMillan glass bedded stock and Rem 700 trued action. Very frustrating trying to figure out why. The only thing left is the scope.
I plan on returning it for warranty service and maybe selling it afterwards..
If it malfunctioned once, I'm afraid the inherent weakness will rear it's Obama-like head again eventually.
I've been reading that the NF scopes have a somewhat inconsistent glass quality problem.
 Different vendors, lots, batches?
IOR 4-14X50mm? Love the MP8 reticle.

Zeiss glass is better, not amazingly better, but noticably better.

I'd run a box test on the Zeiss prior to deciding it is a scope issue.  Do some trouble-shooting before you make a big move - unless you just want the NF.

I have a NF 3.5-15x50 for sale if you are interested, 30mm Badger medium rings with it.  Send me a PM if interested.

Personally, I would not recommend IOR simply because their internals aren't great right now.

are you sure your bases or rings aren't to blame?  I know nothing about NF, but that Zeiss is considered one of the very best!

I replaced my base and rings and still have the same problem.

Now using Farrell base and Badger rings.

What do you think is wrong with the IOR?
I am looking for a good low light scope to go on a new 243 deer rifle.
Most of my work is done from before dawn. At the moment I am still using a 10 year old Lup' (?) vari II. Want something brighter and tougher. Almost always use it on x7 so have been thinking of going fixed mag. I like 1st fp scopes if there are any calibrations on them and have thought about IOR as they seem to be strong.
