Why did some of the Zeiss models go up in price and some not. The 3-9x40 Z-plex went up $50 from $400 to $450 while the 3-9x40 with #4 stayed at $450, now they are the same price. I dont know why the #4 cost $50 more to begin with but now they want you to pay more for the regular z-plex, the 3.5-10x44 with z-plex went up also. Why?   My other question is this, I understand why Zeiss would want some different low powered variables and a fixed 4 power scope added to their line up but why in the world are they longer and just as heavy actually heavier (1.8-5x38 18oz.) than the 3-9x40. I thought the whole idea behind low power was to decrease size and weight. I was set to buy a 3-9x40 with z-plex but if it is the same price as the #4 reticle I may just try it out instead. If I order the Zeiss in #4 and dont like it can I send back to SWFA and exchange for the Z-plex model?

as long as you don't mount it you should be able to return, but you'll pay about $10 shipping each way depending on where you live.  I would try to find a local store with a #4 and decide which one you want before you order from SWFA.

BTW....... I wondered the same thing regarding the price increase!

My guess is because Zeiss wants it that way...  I quit trying to second guess companies.  They have THIER reasons.   I used to get customer who came into the store and said, but that does not make any sence, to me.  I told them it did not have to make sence only money (cents).  Companies exist to make money, regardless if anybody understand it.  Matter of fact, if people don't understand it, then they may make them more money.

Devalued dollar+ profit margin = higher price.

low volume= higher cost

loss leader=lower price

Take your pick...Things like sharing common parts and rejects from upper lines also come into play.

I kind of figured that maybe since their newer low powered variables were so large and heavy that maybe they werent selling as well as anticipated so they upped the price of their most popular models to help make up for the loss in expected profit....I dont know. I remember last year that the 3-9x40 z -plex went up $50 for a short period and then went back down a while after maybe it will do the same this time too.

The reason that the 3-9x40 went from $399 to $450 is because the $399 price was actually a promotion that Zeiss had been running for quite some time. As I understand it, the promotion ended on Jan 1 of this year. I should mention that the 3-9x40, WITH THE Z-PLEX, was the scope that they were promoting. $450 is the price for that scope, the problem is we all got used to that lower promotion price.

This may seem like a dumb question but has the dimensions of the Zeiss #20 Z-PLEX changed at all in the newer models opposed to the older models? I remember looking through a Zeiss 3-9x40 with Z-plex a while back that was the older model with the name Conquest written across the top of the ocular housing and I remember it having a heavy plex reticle. When I looked through one of the newer ones recently its plex reticle was just a tad heavier than that in the Bushnell 4200 but not near as heavy as the older Conquest had if my memory serves me right?. Have they changed them at all that you all know of?
