Can anyone tell me how much of a benefit I will have to get this scope:

over this scope:

I will be hunting with this scope (via box blind, etc) and range will vary from 100-350.  Is the 50mm that much better for light gathering purposes?

You will see LITTLE difference between the two as far as low light shooting goes. Not enough to warrant the extra money spent. Mount the 40mm lower and save some cash at the same time - kinda hard to beat $399. Good luck and good shootin'!

My .02

That extra 10mm of bell is not worth $200

You can mount the 40 lower and it'll be less likely to get in the way trying to look out the other window in the box stand or get dinged up getting to your stand.

The real test would be to go somewhere that carries both and really look through them and sight in on something 70-80 yards away. If you can have a larger field of vision with just as clear of picture it might be worth the extra money.

With the money you save getting the 40 would go a long way towards getting  one of these. I just got to play with one and they are awesome.

The price on the 40mm right now kind of makes it a "best in class" value. I couldn't talk myself into spending that much more for a 50mm, but I'm not really a fan of big objectives. I also live on the plains where there are no trees, or mountains, so at the end of legal shooting light, I can see plenty well yet.
