I am in the market to purchase a new scope for a Remington rifle that I have bought recently. The gun is a Remington model 700 stainless in 7mm-08. I believe I have narrowed my choice down to the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40. I initially wanted the Z-Plex reticle, but after reading about the Rapid Z 600 on this forum, I have become undecided. Due to the fact that the Rapid Z 600 now comes with a $75 rebate, I have now become even more undecided. The rebate means that both of the scopes will cost the exact same amount at SWFA. I guess my big dilema boils down to the fact that I like the fact that the Rapid Z makes the scope better at making longer shots more accurately, but at the expense of making the reticle more complex or "busy". I plan on using this rifle to hunt whitetail deer in Mississippi where most of the shots will be under 100 to 150 yards, but there is the small chance that I will need to make a shot across a soybean field which could be up to 300 yards or so "once in a blue moon". I feel that the plain Z-Plex will be easier to make out and shoot early in the morning or late in the evening when deer are moving, but the Rapid Z will be much easier to shoot any needed longer shot. I simply can't make up my mind. Does anyone have any insight. Also, does anyone have a suggestion on getting the matte or the stainless to go with my gun. As stated earlier, it is a Remington model 700 stainless, but I didn't know how close of a match the "Remington stainless" and the "Zeiss stainless" would be to each if I were to consider the stainless. Does anyone have any pictures of this scope mounted on a Remington 700 stainless for comparisons.

have both -- but a 7mm-08 zeroed at 200 yds will do anything your post is talking about in the plain Z-- it comes down to how much do you like to play with this stuff, the rebate shouldn't enter in. Personally I like the contrast between blue/mat rather than an all stainless set up.

The Sako stainless matches the Zeiss stainless perfectly, but I'm not sure about the Remington. I'd venture to guess it's close though.

Yeah, I am trying to not let the rebate influence my decision. I just like the fact that both will end up costing the same amount, so my decision should come down to the fact of what will serve my purposes best. If there wasn't a rebate in place, I would be subconciously asking myself if the Rapid Z is worth $75 more. This places both scopes on an even playing field.

My main deer rig is a 7mm-08 with a ballistic aiming reticle. My shot opportunities are out to 500+ yards if I was inclined to take one that far. 250-350 yard shots are routine If my shots were 99.9% below 300 yards I would use the plain reticle sighted in 3.25" high at 100 yards. This puts the POI +3" at 200 yards, and -3" at 300 yards. This is with a 140gr bullet at a little better than 2800fpsDale's point about playing with it is right on the mark. Proficiency with ballistic reticles requires practice at longer distances
