I'm looking at these scopes to go on a .270WSM. The 3-9 is $420 and the 3.5-10 is $550. Seems like a lot of difference in price for similar scopes. IS there any difference in these other than power and objective diameter? It just doesn't add up for me. A 3-9X50 Conquest is less than the 3.5-10. Are coatings and glass, etc. the same? Thanks.

Everything is the same except objective size and power. I stick with the 3-9x40s.

Normally I would agree there is not a noticable difference in optical performance or power to matter. I went and looked through a 3-9x40, 3.5-10x44, and a 4.5-14x44 along with several other scopes with the intent on buying the 3-9x40. However the view through the 3.5-10x44 really stood out to me above all the rest for some reason. I am not saying that it would definately be brighter but it did appear to have a much larger field of view and appeared to be brighter. The 3-9 and 4.5-14 looked about the same optically. One thing that I did prefer on the 3.5-10 was the Z-plex recticle. The Z-plex was alot wider than it was in the 3-9. I prefer a wide duplex because it allows for faster target acquisition. However that is just my personal preference. On paper they are about the same and I would have a hard time justifying the extra expense, but when I looked through them the 3.5-10 really impressed me for some reason. The 3-9 is hard to beat for that price though. |

3.5-10x44mm is my vote. The 3-9x40 is a great scope as well, bit I like the 10x option...
