Hi, everyone. I recently completed a 10/22 build, and have narrowed my choices to 3 scopes that are on the sample list. All 3 scopes have pros and cons, so i was hoping someone with personal experience with any or all might chime in. I have ranked these scopes in order of current preference:
1. Bushnell 3200 5-15 x 40. Only con here is no target knobs. 2. Nitrex 3-15 x 50 TR two. Parallax only adjusts down to 25 yds. 3. Nikon Buckmaster 6-18 x 40. 1/8 MOA target knobs big plus, but parallax only goes down to 50 yards. (4) vortex 6.5-20 x 44 viper target dot. Best glass in this group and price range, but not sure I want dot reticle, and only focus down to 50 yds. Does any one make target knobs for bushnell 3200 series? If so, that would solve this issue quick. This rifle will be used for target shooting from 10-100 yards, possible ground hog hunting at short range. |

Just my .02, but I think less magnification and better glass might suit your proposed purpose better. Have you given any thought to a fixed power scope? |

I should have also stated that I wanted to stay in the $250 range. These seem to be the best options in that range that are currently available.
I am trying find a way to keep the images the same size while shooting at all ranges from 10-100 yds. I would like to stay with a simple plex-style reticle so the image I see while target shooting is the same as when I'm hunting, plus I want the option of dialing in distance changes as opposed to holdover. As far as fixed power scopes go, I haven't found one yet that doesn't have some kind of specialized reticle. I'm not comfortable with those reticles. |

Id through the Vortex Viper 4-12 in the mix. Low enough at 4x you could use it hunting and 12x on the top is plenty. Has target turrets, good glass and within your budget. The only downsize is it only adjust down to 50yds.

I wouldn't think you would need as much magnification for a 22. I agree with svt that 4-12 would be better. There was a guy at the range when I went some weeks back and he had a custom 10/22 and he said that much past 50 yards the 22 drops quite quickly.

I actually did look at the viper 4-12, left it out of the group in the first post, but mentioned the 6.5-20 instead. Anywho, I was looking for something in the 12-15x for the longer shots. My goal here is to maintain a fairly constant image size at different ranges, along with using a plex-style reticule to mimic my hunting scope. This rifle is a single-purpose gun, meaning 99 percent range work.
I guess it's a no on aftermarket target knobs for 3200 series? |

Only 3200's that have that ability are the 10x and the 3200 5-15x 40mm Model #325154T Both come with factory target knobs but Kenton Industries alson makes them

Thanks, SVT, for that info. That scope you referenced is the mil-dot model, which I'm not experienced with. If you used the mildot, i guess you could just holdover at the longer ranges, which would make the target knobs unnecessary.
When I began this build, I had planned to use the 3200 10x mildot, or catch a used 10x SS on the sample list. Before I began the build, I got the opportunity to try a mil-dot scope that a friend had mounted on an M4. It seemed very distracting to me, so I am still undecided. |
