Hi gents I have 2 questions for all you optic guruís, it concerns the TDS Recticle vs. the new Multi-zero. Chris I read in another post that you sold your Swarovski so that you could replace it with the Kahles Multi-zero, so now that you have had time to use both. What are the proís and cons between the two and which one do you prefer?  Secondly how strong are the Zeiss Diavari VM/V scopes? I spoke to a local dealer who says that he has had to send back 3 Diavari VM/V scopes that packed up, (1 with a broken recticle) Itís my understanding that optically that you canít beat them. But Iím surprised that they are not built more solidly, than what I thought they would be.

Glock:

How could a laser etched reticle break, like what's on a Diavari?? I'm not calling you out, but something seems wrong there, partner.

The Zeiss Diavari is one of, if not the best hunting scope in the world for a reason.

Welcome to OT.

I've got to call B.S. on your dealer.  He must want to sell you another brand really bad.  I think this might be a case of someone wanting some "Swaro Points" (they get them for Kahles also).  You can't go wrong with Zeiss or Kahles.

Heh guys just repeating what the dealer was saying, i was also wondering how an etched recticle could break.Randburr you are right when you say he wanted to sell me Swaro. How do you think the optics on the new Kahles CL compare to the likes of the VMV and the Swaro?

I would wager that we sell a few more Zeiss than your local dealer and we have never sent one back or heard from a customer that sent one back.  I would agree with Ranburr on this one.  Swarovski offers dealers points every time they sell a Swar/Kahles product that you can redeem for product........if he's really pushing Swarovski at Zeiss' expense then that's why.

I did sell my TDS 4-12 in lieu of a Kahles but have not got to mount it yet.  I hunted with Burris last month and put a 3-12 Ballistic Plex on, then hunted with Leupold and mounted up a 4.5-14.  I'm headed to S. Texas tomorrow and have not had the time to mount and sight in the Kahles yet....so can't really help ya with any real world experience.

The Pros of the TDS are that it is reticle based and can be used without raising up off the rifle.  Con would be that its a one size fits all application and you only have three pre-determined drop indicators.

Pros of the Multizero are that it is adjusted for your specific rifle, barrel length, bullet weight, etc.  You have FIVE zeros to set for any range YOU choose.

Con would be that you have to remember these yardages and physically make the adjustment.

If you shoot alot with the MultiZero it should become second nature.....at least that is what I am hoping.

Hi Chris I didn't know about this point system with Swaro/Kahles products. It makes sense now, as i have never heard of any Zeiss products breaking. Not to say that they couldn't though, i just haven't heard of any. Was wondering why he was pushing Swaro instead of Zeiss and S&B, unfortunately we can't purchase from you guys (as you know). I even tried to buy and send it to a friend in the USA, but one of your staff said it wasn't possible. Pity as the ammount of products, you guys stock is awesome. How do the optics of the Kahles CL compare to the likes of  Swaro PH, Zeiss VMV and the S&B Zenith?

Thanks for the quick response.

Chris

Hey Glock where in South Africa are you . . . I know it is a big country, just wondering.  I spent a wonderful few days north of Port Elizabeth.  Not hunting unfortunatley, but I loved the area and the people.

Hi RGC i live in a town called Secunda, it's about 150km south east from Johanesburg. it is where the main branch of Sasol is situated. Thats the main petrol/chemical company here, Port Elizabeth is in a nice area. Next time you come over you should go north towards Sabi and Kruger Park, you should also try and get a hunt over here it's quiet an experience. Very challenging and our animals are really something else compared to what you are used too, here are two web sites you can look at www.bakstaan.com and www.sheldrake.co.za. A friend hunted at Sheldrake and he reckons it is the best game ranch he has hunted on, he passed up a shot on 60+ inch Kudu as he was specifically after Eland. Mind you he has a 61 inch Kudu hanging in his dinning room.

Regards Chris

I did not notice you were not in the USA.  I think the Pro-Staff point system is USA only.

The Kahles CL, Swarovski Professional Hunter, Zeiss VMV and S&B Zenith are all first class, you are not going to be able to look through all of them and say WOW, such and such one is the best.  They are so close and you can only get so bright and so clear.  It really comes down to features, durability and specs.  For me the Kahles CL fits my needs and desires most closely.

What is most important to you?  Weight, field of view, eye relief, durability, power range, size, internal adjustment, etc.  Ask your self, then look at the specs.  You can't go wrong with any of them but you can get one that fits you better by paying attention to the details.
