OK, I'll start.....

Where I've lived: Upstate NY - North Carolina - Southern Florida - Texas - Oklahoma - Michigan

My Favorite: Michigan - Incredible four seasons, Fishing and Hunting experience second to none for nearly every species, Winter can get long, but you just cannot beat the summer, fall and spring here..  There is something for everyone here, a complete assortment of entertainment of college and pro sports  (except the Lions).. Arts and a ethnic diversity of people and food.  Winter sports are huge....  Miles and Miles of public lands, and a state that puts it's resources into parks.

Everyone knows Texas is the best place to live, come on!  We have all five major geographical features (coast, plains, mountains, forest, desert).

We are self sufficient too, being able to produce our own gas, oil, crops, beef, etc.  We even have our own power grid.

We can also divide into four more states for a total of five, if we want to.  Texas is the only state that is allowed to fly its flag at the same height as the U.S. flag too.

You can hunt big game year round here too, anything from Elk to Kudu.  Texas has more  Black Buck now than their native country does.  Aoudad were introduced in the 30's out in West Texas and  they are now considered to be a native species.  If you ever get the opportunity to hunt a free ranging Aoudad it will be one of the most challenging hunts or your life.

Heck, we even have the Dallas Cowboy's Cheerleaders.

Don't Mess With Texas.

Texas executes more people than any jurisdiction in the Western world. The death toll is astounding: of the 74 executions carried out in the US during 1997, 37 occurred in Texas. Between 1977 and 1997, the US put 432 prisoners to death, Texas alone accounted for 144 (that was a twenty year span).  Since then we've killed another 261 (the last ten years 1998-2007).  That is almost twice as many in half the time, business must be good down in Huntsville.

Most states are getting rid of the death penalty. Texas is putting in an express lane.

I would like to live in Alaska. They could split Alaska in half, and Texas would be the third largest state. No Cowboys cheerleaders though.Wink

I've lived in NY, PA, SC, GA, and FL. I suppose I like NY the best, except for the stupid Libs and the high taxes. I'm about sick of FL having been here since 1976. I believe I'd like WY, MT, or Idaho...but I've never been there. Alaska would be nice but I'm not sure about living there. I'm a cold wimp now. Maybe I could move in with Sarah Palin and she could keep me warm. Now there is an idea.

Well, I've not lived in too many places, let's see

Utah (Borne and Raised - roughly 32 years)
California (Only temporarily [<1year] and NEVER again)
Poland (2 years)
Wyoming (4 years)

I'm pretty pleased with Wyoming though, I'm not naive enough to think this is where I will be settling for the long haul.  I'd like to try Alaska out for a spell but, that ain't gonna happen as long as I'm married. I'll just have to content myself with a visit someday. Actually, if my wife has anything to say about it, I'm sure we'll eventually end up back in Utah.

Pietermaritzburg in South Africa..I spent a year there as an exchange student .. It was a different world 20 years ago. What a stunning place ( kinda envy Wouter for the scenery he is privy too every day) ... While there- you can head to Durban  for a lekker day at the beach, relax at Midmar dam, or take a day and head to my favorite vacation spot- Capetown .

My favorite place for family memories was the wheat fields of Kansas.  This is the kind of country where we raised our girls....on a farm ten miles outside of Pratt, Kansas.  I have other favorite places for scenery and hunting and other criteria, but this was the place that I will remember when I think of the good old days with the kids before the divorce.

AND, Texas is the only state that has a right to secede from the Union.  I just wish it would hurry up so I can come home.
Any questions on what is the BEST place???

I have to admit, even though I love visiting the beautiful Rocky Mountains, Texas is a pretty damn good place to live, especially if you're a gun owner!  If it wasn't for the fact it gets hotter'n hell in the summer, it would be just about perfect in my book.  It's a great place to live if you like to hunt too -- in terms of season length and variety of game, as hunting can be pretty expensive here.
