Hey everyone,

I've been lurking for a bit and decided to join up, introduce myself, and ask for some advice.

Anywho, my first rifle, a Remington 700 BDL European, is desperately in need on a new scope.  She's currently wearing a 3-9 Nikon ProStaff.  Here's what I'm looking at...

Is the VX-3 worth the money over the Viper?  I can get the Conquest for a ProDeal of $525; does that make it worth it?  What do you guys think?

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Logan

Welcome pback! Honestly, any of the scopes mentioned will get the job done. Personally, I like the Conquest the best...but that's just me. I'd also recommend checking out the Sightron Big Sky scopes. Their glass is good, they have a weather resistant coating (similar to the Bushy Rainguard), and their CS is very good. Some may have $75 rebates going on also. Good luck with your selection.

Welcome to OT.  You haven't exactly told us what you are looking for, but I'll comment anyway.
Are you looking for adequate for the lowest price or the best scope for dollars (highest value)?  Best value, all day, every day, with your list is the Conquest.  I don't own a Vortex Viper, never have and it's a pretty good bet I never will... unless someone gives me one.  Then I'll see what its trade-in value is...  The few I've seen have been OK, complaints and compliments are mixed.  They have a great warranty, Vipers are Japanese made, but so does Swift (Korean assembly)...  I don't have anything against Vortex, just don't have a need.  Leupold is less a value, to me.  Still good warranties, but I know a lot of users who have to exercise those warranties and I think in the same price range, the Vortex has better "features".  Vortex is an American owned company, which has some weight, but Conquest are assembled in the US... it's a wash, to me.

Thanks for the welcome and the comments.

Kickboxer, I really want my best value (price:quality).  I didn't know Conquest was assembled in US, though.  That's a nice plus for me.

I suggest you take a look at the features and capability of the Vortex Viper PST.   I have two of them and can compare them against my Leupold Mark 4 as well as my Zeiss Diavari F*.    Needless to say, they don't begin to compare with the Zeiss.   However, the glass is clearer than the Leupold and I use the MOA reticle (although you can get the MIL reticle) which I really like.    You should be able to pick one up in your price range.   The PST glass is much better than the normal Vortex glass and I highly recommend you make that jump.

That should give you a very good hunting scope with good low-light and a lot of features that are extra on other scopes.   Like I said, I got a second one.

The Viper should suffice for your needs,IMO. They're great scopes (I have 2 older Vipers). That gets you a decent set of turrets, and better glass than the older Prostaff.

Leupold offers low weight, compact scopes with nice comfortable eyeboxes and ok glass, but they seem far from a "value" when compared to other scopes in their price class with similar features. The current low profile VX3 hunting scope turrets look very similar to those on the $160 Redfields, though of course they may track better. Oddly I think Leupold's Redfield Revolution line is a far better value than most anything they offer in the Rifleman/VX1/2/3 hunting lines, and beats some others in its price class.

The 3.5-10x 44mm Conquest is a great scope, but you're essentially paying $125 more for 1x more top end power and a tiny bit more low light resolution than the well liked $400 3-9x 40mm Conquest.

I"ll save you a ton of cash, and get you great glass,  waterproof, fog proof, hydrophobic lens coatings that shed water, and a very, very durable build.........the Elite 4200 3-9x40.  The best bang for the buck scope in existence.

The 3-9x40 Conquest for $399.99 is a heck of a value also and isn't much different in specs from the 3.5-10. I doubt you would see any gain in performance for the $125.

Some great suggestions, guys, thanks.

JG/300, I'm just biased against Bushnell; just haven't seen the quality in their products in my past experiences.

After the comments, I'm now looking at these two:

After the rebate the Conquest costs about $100 more than the Big Sky.  Thoughts?

Thanks.

+1 for the Conquest.
I'm very impressed with their glass, however, I've never looked through a Sightron.
