I wonder if anyone could help me with a decision. I am getting ready to order a rifle from Tactical Operations and my thought was to equip it with a high end scope like a Schmidt and Bender, but I started thinking about how good my 10x42m Super Sniper works on my Tikka Tactical in .308

So, I started to look at new offerings SWFA had for S.S. scopes and noticed the 3-15x42 and their 5-20x50. They look like good scopes, and if they are as rugged and repeatable as my current S.S. scope I know I would be happy as well as save a bunch of money.

Then I remembered that I have a Xotic scope at the bottom of my safe that I bought years ago to put on a project that I was working on and never did.

Does anyone have any feedback on these scopes. Do they live up to their advertising? Would it be as good as S.S's new offerings.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome to Optics Talk.

I vaguely recall that scope, but found this link. Maybe some of the old timers like Koshkin or Mike M. can help out.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

I remember when the Xotic scope was around and it seemed like a solid design. However, I have never tested it.

The new SS scopes, on the other hand, I have a lot of mileage with and can comfortably endorse.

Start with the xotix, I recall they were good scopes back in the day.

The XOTIC won't have the same caliber glass as the new SS line, but we spent a few YEARS field testing that monster, so yes.....................it's durable.

It all comes down to the distances involved. The new SS 5-20x50 is a very nice scope with very good glass and reliable adjustments and I like the reticle plus it is Mil Mil.  If your distance will exceed 1000 some of the scopes with the Horus Reticles would be worth considering.  If your distances are only a few hundred yards then less power will do.  If its for LE then you may need illumination and you may want the low end power lower.   http://www.samplelist.com/TradeInForm.aspx  this is the link if you want to trade it in. Look at the Premier the Heinsoldt (Zeiss)  the Schmidt Bender and the U.S. Optics. Tac Ops builds some of the finest rifles in the world try to remember that the scope and the mount are things that really can limit you getting all the rifle has to offer out of it.  If you will be wanting to remove the scope to transport it when flying I would mount using La Rue QD rings and if the scope will not ever be removed I would look at AAdland and Badger Ordnance rings.

Thanks for all the replies gentlemen. I have been away from shooting rifle for a while due to my wifes health problems but am hoping to come back and shoot steady again.

I was punching paper up to 300yds. but have found a place where I can get out to at least 800 so I'd like to get all my dope for the new rifle to that distance.

Things have changed up a bit in my down time. I used to use A.R.M.S.QD rings for my scope and they worked out well for removing the scope and repeating. I will look into those LaRues.

Thanks for the links and all the input. Much appreciated!

Jack

I would also take a look at the Bobros.
