i knew there was a hidden agengda behind your crazy comments, if i were to buy a new xcr i would buy a .338win just because i dont have a .338, would be a smashing whitetail round!!

I am all for technology and would like to see if they pull it off, too.
If I remember the bolt locks up in the breach of the barrel and not in the receiver. This certainly reduces cost as the barrel/receiver alignment is not as critical as the bolt locking into the receiver system.

ye, me too-- love to have a xcr in 338 laupua or 338 ultra. it means you can build a massive receiver with same dimensions as a reg. mauser bolt, translates into less movement (stiffer action) and better accuracy, (in mass produced guns, as 700 really don't have accuracy problems). just like the 788's.

tahq--nice all around set up-

not any more than any other 338 and not as much as a .338 ultra--- about the same as 3" slug loads in a 12 gauge. anda about 1/2 of a 458 mag.

really i was figuring that it would be substanialy worse than the .338 win i know the 300 ultra lets you know when  you touch one off never shot a 458 i have however done the 416 rigby once and that was more of a push the 300 ultra kicks

I don't really know what it does for strength. I look at the M700 receiver and see that it is pretty stout and I have never heard of any problems with them. With the barrel locking in the breach of the barrel, though, the variable of aligning the bolt with the lug recesses in the receiver and then having this align with the barrel and breach is eliminated. Having the lugs lock in directly to the barrel breach directly makes sense from cost, for sure. I would imagine it would help accuracy wise, but that is just opinion.

Thanks, DC. I keep seeing more about the .338 Lapua. Isn't that more of a target round?
You guys are right about heavy shotgun loads, 2oz of lead out of an 870 is obnoxious. It bothers me more than my friends .378 Wby. That is a stock issue, but darn, that 870 hurts.

i have never used one to shoot any thing i shot my 300wsm 75 times one day and never ended up with a bruise, my dad shot that same rifle 5 times and was black and blue from the top of the shoulder to below his arm pit, no im not nuts i think a kicking rifle makes me shoot better, makes me concentrate on the shot better imo

The XCR in .338 would be a great all around gun for just about anywhere. This round doesn't smack you too hard when shooting the 210's and work good on deer. Use the 250's on the big beasts, ammo just about anywhere.........nice

2 oz. load, at 1200 fps in 10 lb gun=35 ft/lbs recoil

250 gr at 2600fps in 10 lb gun=36 ft/lbs recoil

of course stocks are different in dealing with the recoil to shooter.
