I have found ( in an old box in a basement) what I am told is a WWII German scope. It is about 6 to 6 1/2" long, square barrel, round ends. Has a single post recticle(sp) with two adjustment knobs. The post visibly moves up and down when turning one adjustment. There is no name just this stamped on the side.... Gw ZF4. under that is..... 69237. under that is... ddx. and a triangle. Any thoughts? |

That really depends on if you find someone wanting/needing something like that. Pricing something of historical value is tricky unless you have a buyer who is out for just that item. If it is that same as the one that was posted on gun broker 4,000 should be easy to get it moved. Send Chris Farris a private message and see what his thoughts are on it. He is the man when it comes to things of this nature. You might be able to find a museum that would love to have it also. Edited by Bigdaddy0381 - January/12/2009 at 11:33 |

Your Zf 4 is a rather common scope and was a 4x scope used on the G 43 and G 41 semi auto rifles as well as some MP 43s. It was meant as a dedicated marksman scope. These scopes vary in value depending on manufacture, condition and even reticle. Also the triangles on the scope were originally colored to indicate the climate the were made for.
I did some research on this scope sometime back on the internet. I will see if I can find the sight and post the address here later.
This is really an interesting scope and ahead of it's time. It is interesting how the Germans came up with so much of the war fighting theory that is used today.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I found this by linking from the G43 collectors homepage from the Small Arms Review Links
Good luck!

The Germans have always been ahead in optics. At one of the test ranges we used Askania cameras captured in WWII until they were retired in about 1996. The quality, resolution was better than the cameras that replaced them.
