I had the privilege of shooing a truly majestic beast… and a few of his buddies in digital format!  Until a few weeks ago, all my hunting has been done with a gun in hand… but most recently I discovered that hunting with my Nikon D90 can be just as rewarding.

While in Lemoore, CA for the purpose of inspecting the Naval Aviation Commands in the area… I had the opportunity too make a trip to Yosemite National Park for a little R&R over the weekend.  The weather wasn’t optimal for typical landscape shots of this truly amazing place… Wanting to make the most of the time I had, I decided to wander off into the woods and see if I could capture some wildlife in the natural habitat… I was blessed with the sighting and cooperation of a trophy class Blacktail buck.  I was able to shoot over 100 photos of 5 different buck and several doe with yearlings Sunday evening.   I missed the Super Bowl, but was blessed with truly a once in a lifetime experience.

BTW another photographer at the park in the immediate area heard of my experience and ventured into the woods… Shortly thereafter he was running back out of the woods screaming like a banshee with a buck not far behind… unfortunately for him, he never got a single shot off.

Quite a trophy you have. Thanks for sharing it with us. What you have done is greater than any shot with a gun. With these pictures posted on the web you have shared your experience with the entire world.

It isn't always about the trophy on the wall, or the meat in the freezer. Most of us hunters are outdoor enthusiasts just seeing something so majestic and getting proof of that is a tremendous joy, a memory that we take with us everywhere we travel.

Very nice, thanks for sharing. Must be the hunter in me that caused my one eye to close and my trigger finger to curl ever so slightly!!!
