Is there any base more secure for windage adjustment? Right now I have a leupold rear
adjustable rear base. From time to time the ring slips away from the set screws. I tighten the ring as much as I can, also locktite the set screws on the base.

 Hmmm.
That's not a bad combination, even if the rifle is pretty light.
It shouldn't be giving you trouble.
Real hard kickers with big scopes- yes, but not a .270 Winchester.
The screws or the base may be mangled up a little from having ripped out before, and aren't interfacing properly anymore. Look at them very closely.

I had one on a 7 1/2lb all up .300 mag. Scope was a Vari-X 3.5-10x40AO.  It worked for 20yrs and then I decided to lighten up the ring/base set-up. I never had one minutes trouble with it and it's still quite usable. Maybe you just got a bad one.

I'm sorry ... it was my .243 with a 5-15x40 bushnell. I locktited the base screws. Maybe not tight enough.  I repositioned the ring and where the rear ring meets the set screws on the base, and tightened the screws down tight until they would go no more.

That should do it. No burrs on the bottom of the ring or where it seats in the base?

No damage to the ring, no. I think I just didn't tighten the screws down tight enough.
