Don't expect much soon.  WRA has contracts that if they start up they have back penalties to pay.  They have to stay out of production for five years on most of those.

The old factory was out of date.  The tooling was getting worn in may cases.  Labor was high.  The area where they were has a high cost of living and an anti-gun enviorment.

The BIG customers were in a sales war as to who could sell the cheapest.  The small customers were getting screwed by the big customers, so they dropped the line.

Now, Winchester is a part of, Browning, who is a part of FN.  Rumor is that you may see some special editions from Browning, produced in Japan.

With millions of model 94 ect. out there don't expect the same old guns to comeback.  The demand was saturated a long time ago.

It will take a business plan to bring them back.  Expect differant products and from new plants including off shore.

wont do me any good without a long action to hook it up too, i mean a whole rifle either brand new in box or lightly used.

Dakota, with their M76 and 97 actions, which are refined versions of the M70 action with a few improvements.  Empire makes a similar action, but it has more in common with the Mauser 98 action than the M70.

I'm betting FN will continue to produce the actions for tactical police rifles--only- Neiska bay (dakota), kimber, will continue to have abetter offering than WRA--  for your 280, get a kimber montana,

Pyro, I would scour the online gun sales sites like gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com.  If you want a M70, you should have no problem finding a M70 Featherweight in .280, plus you can generally see a pic of it before buying.  Even if you do plan to go with the M77 or A-Bolt, I would still take a look at these sites before buying from a retail store, as you can often get some great deals.  Again, any of the rifles mentioned will serve you well, and all factory rifles are a crapshoot with regards to accuracy.

People blow my mind... There has to be a -MILLION- of these things out there.  Get one you like, and if it does not shoot, then rebarrel it.  Why not pay the gunsmith, and get what you -REALLY- want.  The stock will fit, the trigger will break clean and the thing will shoot.

my old man has a 222 in a old 700 bdl it wear a weaver v12 i believe, and i am almost positive that my grand dad has a 250-3000 in a savage 99 but the hornet is a jewel, 22k done by po ackley himself with a kenneth l hooper bullbarrel on an orignal old school win 1885 grand dad built the forearm and the buttstock himself and what a beauty she is i wish i had some pics of her, that gun wears an old weaver k4.

i still have 35 more test loads to shoot and if the damn wind would quit blowing 30-40 mph i would go shoot again, i also picked up a pound of 4350 on monday which from what imr says is the best powder for the wsm and wssm's i might have to load some of that up as well.

rifledude has first dibbs on the rifle for the summer, he already pmd me about it.

another thing i failed to mention about the .257 roberts was that when i first started hunting i was handed a beautiful example of winchester's ability in a pre 64 m70 in a .257 roberts she wore a vari-xII 3x9 i never killed anything with that rifle other than paper but i remember the light recoil very well, to bad my uncle will probably end up with that one though.

The M700 Mountain Rifle is available for 2007 in .280. That gun is sweet to carry and shoot. It does not show up on their website, but it appears in the 2007 PDF catalogue download.

Good find Tahqu. Remington has a lot of stuff that you don't see on the web page. I had no clue they made a Rem 700 CD SF
SF = stainless fluted barrel. Good good looking gun. It is a limited edition gun that started last year commemorating the 30-06. This year they are commemorating the .17 Fireball, but they are chambering it in .270, 7mm Rem Mag, 03-06, etc. Can only find it if you look at the 2007 catalog in PDF format from the Remington website.

You might have missed it. They just started making this gun last year, as part of a multi year limited edition gun. Last year it was made to commemorate the 30-06, and it was only chambered in the 30-06. This year, they have it to commemorate the 17 Fireball, but are chambering the gun in 270., 7mag, etc. If you purchase it in the 17 fireball, it comes with a engraved floor plate. However, I e-mail Remington to make sure that the other guns don't have the 17 Fireball engraving - and they don't. Very good looking gun that comes with the new X-Mark trigger.

On the highpower range about the only bolt guns being used were M70 Targets.
