Hi guys!

I'm new back here, looking for help if possible... Big Grin
I'm writing from Croatia, Europe, and since the rifle optics here are more expensive than there in USA I've engaged a friend who will bring me soon optic from USA back here... (if I find it)Bandito
but, there is a problem, I'm looking at this sites: cabelas, dick's, sportoptics, eurooptics and competitor and I still haven't found anything suitable... the biggest problem, believe it or not, is the price which is for 200$ cheaper than here and then I don't know if I'm looking at a poor quality optics or not...
I'm looking for a wide angle, something like 1-4x24 or 1-6x22 (or 24), with red (illuminated) center dot /reticle and with capped turrets. My hunting rifle gun is 8x57 caliber, and as far I can see on the listed shops most of the optics are tested with 5.56 shells which should be smaller than mine, so I'm afraid I'm gonna break the optic soon with the recoil of my caliber.

Can anyone point me out a suggestion for the above mentioned specs? Something under 550$ if possible?

And also, are the Vortex and Burris optics any good? Here in Europe most of my colleagues use Swarowski, Hawke, Vixen, Nikon & Pro Lux (from the low budget range) and I've never heard anything of Vortex or Burris.

Thanks a lot!

Burris and Vortex have good products. 8x57 recoil will not be a problem. If you do much reading on here you will see posts on Leupold VX-R and Vortex Diamondback scopes in your price range and for your application.

Thats kind of a tough one. Don't know of many 1-4x scopes not meant for .223. Leupold VXR, SWFA SS, and Vortex Viper PST are the only ones that come to mind. There are a few more options, but non illuminated.

Hi, I’m also from Europe – Germany))

And yes, I had to order stuff from USA.. it turned out to be more beneficial.

I looked through many resources and still, I’m on the stage of choosing another scope for myself I can recommend checking this article as the foundation for beginners: and then you can search for some reviews and pros and cons)

Something like this will be useful to know for sure what you have to look for)

For hunting it's easier to buy angled device. The reason is that you won't need to change the position and move a lot during watching. You just need to set the tripod in right position. For birding you might want a straight device for such reasons:

no need to choose the best pose and stand with no movement;

possibility to use the device sitting or standing;

less prisms and lenses in the device, higher output;

sometimes cheaper versions with the same specs as angled ones;

easier to store and transport, more compact decisions.
