Why are Swarovski scopes lighter than most other scopes i.e. Kahles, Leopold, Zeiss, etc.?  Is it because they have a less robust tube and inners, less lead in the glass or just better materials and engineering?

Thanks,

Sam

Sam -

It is because of the materials and engineering.  They are certainly not less robust.   Having said that, I own two Kahles scopes with two more on the way in the next 3-6 months.

The Swarovski American is lighter because it uses a one inch erector tube. You will find the Zeiss Diavari VM/V to be the lightest series of 30mm scopes on the market. The Swarovski PH and the Z6 are still not very heavy scopes. The Schmidt&Bender scopes are a few ounces heavier than the Zeiss or Swarovski.
