The last bullet I thought I would have trouble buying was a .22LR. Why is it so hard to find .22 bullets? Please educate me.....Serious or funny answers....

Maybe it's because, given current prices on ammo, .22LR is all many people can afford to shoot in any quantity.

'Cause so many shooters finally woke up to not having to clean the barrel except every five years or so.

Yep - you and several million other shooters who ALL have a 22LR.  The simple fact is that one can go into a store and with a hundred bucks buy a lot of 22 ammo try that with 300 WSM and you walk out with 40 rounds for your hundred bucks. 22 ammo is in a price range eveyone can afford. So now its been sold and it sells as quick as it comes in. What shocks me is the extent to which all gun related equipment has been disappearing even plastic ammo boxes and some of the odd stuff and the expensive stuff.

I cant even buy a box of 338 for a hundred dollars... I'll trade my .22 for more reloading supplies if this keeps up through this spring.

to a large extent the 22lr shortage has come about by the zombie crisis.  not kidding here. preppers who start stock piling several weeks food and supplies for a rainy day. alot of these people aren't even into guns, but the literature states that having a 22 with  a brick of bullets may save the day, not necessarily self defense but an all around solution to many situations. in normal situations their demand would not be that great, but when added to regular 22 shooters, well you see the results.

I can't wait for the Zombie Apocalypse, but I don't think I have enough ammo. Lol

Jokes aside we are seeing the shortage here in South Africa as well, but only on CCI ammo. Winchester and Remington are fine on the ammo they bring in, as well as the European stuff. I hear that the US milatry use CCI 22LR ammo but not sure if its true, that's what the importer this side says.
