Hello Optics Scientifics !

After a long time saving money and breaking my head on which spotter to choose, I have got my first spotter, it is a Zeiss Diascope 85mm (straight) w/vario eyepiece, but unfortunately the game is not over yet, as now I have to buy  a tripod kit and a protective case (neoprene vs cordura) that will hurt even more my wallet...... Oh my  Je$$$u$$$ !!!!!!

So I need your kind advice, please suggest me which tripod and head will work, without leading me to sell my other leg to get them !

I'll use the scope mainly for hunting and then for shooting and to play with my camera eventually, so I need something compact and light

Besides I think it will be a good idea to get a protective jacket but dont know very well between the neoprene and cordura jacket, I think the neoprene is lighter...

Thanks for your comments!

Most any tripod and head from Manfrotto and Gitzo will serve you well and provide a solid foundation for your new Diascope.  Nice scope, by the way!

What About Nikon Tripods, are they high value as their optics? Why not to buy a nikon instead of a Manfrotto ..........

I have really no idea which difference is between them.....

Thanks

Nikon doesn't make their branded tripods.  Manfrotto makes tripods for several optics brands, but I'm not sure who makes the Nikon tripods and I have no personal experience with them.

For the straight scope you will need a tripod height of 25cm (10") less than your own height and this should be achieved without a lot of centre column extension. Unfortunately, there are no cheap solutions, which offer adequate stability with the large scope and magnifications up to 60x.
A good head would be the Manfrotto 128RC.
You don't really need a stay-on case in the field, though a padded bag is useful for transportation. A cheap solution here is to get a sock sewn up from thick felt and velcro.
