I'm and hunter / medium range shooter, and I'm to get a new scope. The choice is narrowed down to:
Hensoldt 3-12x56
and
Hensoldt 4-16x56
Let me hear some opinions about the matter.. I shoot a .308 Sauer 202 Avantgarde Gold.. The bullet is a Lapua Mega 185 gr.

I do not know the make of scope. Do either of them have parallax adjustments? I would choose the one without parallax for hunting purposes.

Hensoldt is the military version of Zeiss.. The 3-12x56 equals the Diavari 3-12x56 T* except it has target knobs, parallax and mildot sight. The 4-16x56 is only available in the military Hensoldt version.

Those are some SWEET scopes!!! I'm drooling...
I have heard that Zeiss is discontinuing the Hensoldt line and bringing this lineup under the Zeiss name. Any idea if this is indeed the case?
With regard to your questions, both are fine for your applications but I personally like magnification so I'd go with the 4x16 56mm. Either way you're getting an amazing scope with pretty much the best glass in the world. |

Those are pretty amazing looking scopes!! For hunting application the parallax adjustment may become a problem if your target does not give you enough time to fiddle with the dials. Looking at the scopes I would say their beauty and application is in all the glass, dials and stuff, so go for the highest magnification. This scope just calls for that!!

If you are going for hunting & target I would go the 4 to 16 power, I have always carried my scope set on the lowest power for more field of view and moving game and 16 is more than enough for target out to 600 or 800 meters. Past that the 308 is slowing and not the best choice for 1000 meters

My concern is if 3 is low enough for field off view ??
I know there is only 1 in difference in the "low", but 4 to gain in the "upper"

Sorry, made a mistake in the message before.. I should have written;
My concern is if 4power is low enough for field off view... ?? for close hunting, and shooting targets in movement ??

Hello Tooms
Hope things are well in Denmark, couple of questions. Are you ok with Mil/Mil reticle/movement now? How did things work out with your 6-24 Zeiss? Would you prefer a Mil/Moa scope?(this can save you a unbelievable amount of money)
2.5-10 = 3-12 max would be my choice for your set-up and application.

Trinidad has a good point I use a 2.5 -10 swaro for hunting more than any other scope for the clarity & field of view for moving targets.
