That depends on your application and the magnification range that you need.

Generally, Aetec is a better scope with better optics.

i ditto koshikin, because the purpose you would use the 3.8-12 for, you wouldnt want to use the 6.5-20, and the other way around.

I have had a 3X10X44, .44 Mag series from Simmons, on a 30.06, and it has been excellent. In 4 years, I have had no problems with it, and it has accounted for much game.  I bought a new WBY vanguard this fall, and put a Sightron SII on it, but, in my opinion, an Aetec would have likely of been nearly as good, and probably somewhat more economical.  I think the Aetec would be a good choice.

The Aetec is Simmons top of the line model, but that's not saying much. LOL

The Aetec has the better optics. Also for the money
it's about as bright of a scope as you'll find. I've had
one (3.8-12x44) ever since they first came out. It was
on 2 different 7M-08's, loaned out to a friend who
used it on a 30-06 for several years & now it's on my
Ruger 10-22 & so far is still going strong. My vote
would have to be for the Aetec.

I have owned 2 Aetecs. Never had a hint of a problem with either. One was on a .30-06 the other on a 7mm Mag. For the price, it can't be beat.

I suffered with a Whitetail Classic this past season which I removed from the rifle when I got home from the final hunt of the year.  To their credit Simmons had a new .44 mag returned to me within 2 weeks.  Have yet to mount it on anything since I'm saving up for a Conquest.  May end up using the 44 on the relic above the fireplace ;-)

I have owned two Whitetail classics and still have one on my Ruger 10-22, I do not want another. The zoom tube is stuck on 2.5x ( it is a 2.5-8x36), a little 2-7x32 Burris Fullfield I have is two steps above it optically speaking when laid side by side on the same power in poor light. A coworker of mine has two 3.8-10x44 Aetecs and they are not the same, one is brighter than the other. I have looked through the brightest one and it would be decent for a $100 or so dollar scope. He also has a Simmons Whitetail Expedition that is a little 2-8x32 I believe and it is brighter and clearer than either of the Aetecs he owns when compared at 4x in poor light ( we did this comparison ourselves and he was shocked). From this I would think they have a lot of variations in quality from one scope to another in the same product line. That alone would make me pass on them even at their low price.

I have a couple of the expeditions one on a .300 win mag and another on a  .270.......I have been very pleased with them and they have accounted for several good bucks......some taken in the waning hours of daylight and they were plenty bright enough........

The Aetec uses better glass, coatings, internals and has better light transmission, eye relief, field of view, etc.  The only thing the WTC18 has that is better is magnification.

They have not made any yet.  Should start getting them late summer.

By this time next year everyone will have a totally different opinion of Simmons.  After Meade acquired them they have made huge advances in scope technology.  The new Master Series is truly revolutionary.

Hey Chris, do the new Simmons Master Aetec series have wire reticles or etched reticles? Just curious.

Not sure, I would guess etched because that technology has gotten a lot less expensive and easier to do.  I think wire reticles are fast becoming a thing of the past.
