I bought a Leupold and am very happy with it.  I've had other scopes that were acceptable but love the feel and quality of the Leupold.  Are there other companies that make scopes in the US?  How can you find out?

Second question would be: is there a guide to picking the right scope?

Thanks.

I personall think it would be more correct to say that Leupold is assembled in the U.S.  They buy their glass from Japan.  They do use enough U.S. made components to pass govt. scrutiny on the made in the U.S. claim.  Pentax is essentially the same set-up.  Burris is the only mainstream line that I know of that is still 100% American made.  There are other higher end lines like U.S.Optics that are 100% U.S. made but they fit into a whole different category.

Burris has a large percentage of the Fullfield II 3-9x40's and 4.5-14's assembled in the Philippines.  All the other scopes are still 100% made in the U.S.A.  However they do not toot that horn as loudly as they did in the past.  Here is an example of how the packaging has changed.

thats interesting, i knew most of the full field scopes where assembled in the phillipines, but i figured all the glass would be foreign made.
