OK guys, I have a 300wsm that I have been shooting and having fun with for a while. I currently have a SS10X on it and would like to upgrade a little and switch to a variable power. The scope is great for target shooting but I was hunting with it last season and the 10X was a little much for a few shots that presented them selfs. I am looking for something with a low end around 3X and a top end of at least 9X. I have a max budget of $900 that I can spend, and am set on getting a scope with a adjustable parallax for target shooting. I don't shoot competition or anything, but do shoot out to 600 yards often when target shooting.

Here are the scopes I am considering at the moment, and would greatly appreciate any input, experience, or knowledge that can be shared as I most likely will not be able to actualy physically compare these scopes with each other.

I know enough to know they are all really good scopes, but I am having a hard time making up my mind here.
Thanks, Dave

The best one of the bunch is the Viper PST.

Would the reticle on the PST be difficult to see for hunting? If kept illuminated I'd 2nd the PST and based on many user reviews the SIII a close 2nd.

 Witches don't need scopes. Devil

I also like the 6500 in this list, rain guard and pretty decent optics.

That is a pretty good list to pick from.  I think the Vortex has the most features for the price, and those that have them seem to like them.  They are also super folks to deal with.  If it were my money I would gamble on that one.

+1
I really like the lower power option for a hunting scope.
And depending on how you hunt, if you walk very much I would at least consider the 42mm objective.

what kind of hunting are you doing with this rifle?  I'm not sure you need AO with a 3-9.  Isn't that more for high powers?

I would probably lean toward the Elite 6500, except I prefer the more compact 2.5-16x42 version.

Sightron S3 3.5-10x44 is also a very decent choice if you are comfortable with 10x on the top end.

I didn't get any of that from them, was just told that it would be worth it to wait a few more months.  Probably the same thing everyone else gets.
