Hi, I just bought my wife a Browning a-bolt micro 7mm-08.  I have pretty much narrowed my scope choice down to two.  bushnell 4200 elite1.5-6x36 and the leupold vx-iii 2.5-8x36.  You guys are the experts, so which would you suggest?  Any other recommendations welcome.  Thanks.

I've never had the Bushnell but I own and use two VX-III 2.5-8X36 and like them a lot.  The Leupold is significantly smaller and lighter and has better eye relief.  I think it would work best on your small rifle.  Most of the folks here are anti Leupold, but it's one of the few places where Leupold isn't king.

If I had the money (I bet quite a few of us could sing a long to that tune) I would go to the Samples list and pick out a nice Kahles AH 2-7x36 for $450.  Then again, this is just based on what I've read and some talks with guys at church.  Additionally, I am not sure if it is worth the extra $150 over the VX-III . . . but if I had the money . . .

I've had the Kahles 2-7 and the Leupold VX III 2.5-8 side by side for several months.  The Kahles is gone, VX III's are still here.  Save your $150.  Now if you wanted to spend twice as much...The Kahles CL at $800 is amazing.  One of the few high dollar scopes that's really worth the money.

Ok, MWYATES, why did you get rid of the Kahles? What did you not like about it? What was the main reason?

Ok the Kahles is out of the question.  I'm not spending over $400.  I do like the size and weight better on the leupold.

The Zeiss Conquest is the best scope in it's class right now. No Leupold bashing, it just is the heat.

The VX III is a "clone" of what the Conquest already is.

cheaptrick........out!

The Kahles just didn't have any advantage over the Leupold, and a new one costs a lot more.  Same clarity, brightness and fild of view.  Plus, I like the Leupold zoom ring and locking eyepiece.

As my brother is reconsidering his next purchase from a 3-9x to a 2-7x this is a very interesting thread to me also.  Thanks mwyates for the side by side between the Kahles and the Leupold . . . the VX-III is a lot more atractive for me right now.

I have both the Kahles and the Leupold and price aside, I prefer the Kahles optically.  I just think it's a little brighter and clearer.  But.......I wouldn't pay the difference for a new Kahles over a new Leupold though; it's not that much better. The Leupold also has the edge when it comes to eye relief which may or may not be a big issue; for me the Kahles is plenty.  I found my Kahles on the Sample list for $400, in brand new condition.  I don't know why the others are more.  Bottom line is go with the one that you can find for a better price.
