     I am looking for a quality scope that will last, hold its zero and track well from repeated adjustments. I also want the best optics and features for the money as do we all. I have read a lot on this optics talk forum and I beleive I have narrowed it down to these choices.        &nbs p;

ZEISS CONQUES 3-9x40
LEUPOLD 3.5-10x40
BUSHNELL ELITE 4200 2.5 -10X40
NIKON MONARCH 3-9X40
WEAVER GRAND SLAM 3-10X40
BROWNING 3-9X40
BURRIS FULLFIELD II 3-9X40
SIMMONS ATEC 2.8-10X44

I currently have a Thompson center encore in 270.cal, I was planning on switching the scope between the 270. and the 50.cal muzzleloader barrel. Thats why I want the scope to track well. This way I can spend more on one quality scope for both barrels. I may trade the gun off later though so my scope needs to be ables to fit a variety of rifles. The only concern about the Grand Slam scope is the large adjustment ring might be in the way when mounted low on any bolt action rifle and maybe even the hammer on my encore rifle.    JUST THROW SOME OPINIONS MY WAY PLEASE!

Well, the Elite 4200 has the raingaurd lens coating and the firefly reticle. Wouldn't that be a better overall bargain? Is the Zeiss conquest that much better a scope, afterall it can still fog up and has no low light reticle? By the way how long does that firefly reticle glow after being charged for a few minutes?

the elite is right up there with the zeiss, either one is well worth the money, but i wouldnt buy the firefly reticle.

"I am looking for a quality scope that will last, hold its zero and track well from repeated adjustments."

I take it your initial sentence is your largest concern.  Just about all modern day mid to top level scopes will track well and hold their zero, so it really comes down to optical quality, fit (as you mentioned), features and usability.

First lets narrow the list down a bit to the creme of the crop.

ZEISS CONQUERS 3-9x40
LEUPOLD 3.5-10x40
BUSHNELL ELITE 4200 2.5 -10X40
NIKON MONARCH 3-9X40
WEAVER GRAND SLAM 3-10X40

Then lets take out the Grand Slam because of its potential mounting issue with the TC's hammer and its over sized power selector.

ZEISS CONQUERS 3-9x40
LEUPOLD 3.5-10x40
BUSHNELL ELITE 4200 2.5 -10X40
NIKON MONARCH 3-9X40

The Leupold, Elite and Nikon are very similar in optical quality and light transmission but one of them stands out because of its features.  The Elite 4200 has rain guard, fire fly reticle, 4x erector (goes from 2.5-10 instead of 3-9) and comes with a nice $100. gear bag.  This now takes us down to two scopes.

ZEISS CONQUERS 3-9x40
BUSHNELL ELITE 4200 2.5 -10X40

Now it gets tough.  Both are top of the line.  Elite still out features it but the Conquest has the optical edge.  Elite has 1 year money back warranty....Zeiss has lifetime transferable.  Zeiss has a constant 4" eye relief, Elite has an average 3.3" eye relief.  They are pretty much the same price.  An important factor to you is which one has the most user friendly windage and elevation adjustments.

And that would be the Zeiss.  It has a low profile target style adjustment with an easily resettable arrow that points to zero.  You simply lift up on the dial and it disengages the threads allowing you to re-set the arrow to zero.  So you would sight it in on gun #1, lift the dial and set the arrow back to zero and make a note that gun #1's zero is when the arrow is pointing to the reference mark on the scope body.  Sight the scope in on gun #2 and DO NOT lift the dial up and return it to zero, instead leave it where it is and make a note of it.  Now you should be able to switch it back and forth with very little trouble.

The Elite has a raised little handle that is not as easy or quick to adjust.  However, you can do the same thing with its adjustment as the Zeiss....you just can't lift it up and set it back to zero.   You would have to make notes of where each is.  No biggy either way.

Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40.....$429.99

If you have indeed narrowed down your search to the Zeiss and the Bushnell I will give you my input on both which I currently own...The Zeiss Conquest is American made and make of that what you will and is considered the bottom line scope for Zeiss. The Bushnell 4200 Is considered the top of the line scope for that company. I personally wasn't happy with the Zeiss in the overall clarity of the scope especially at dark. The Bushnell will outperform the Zeiss in overall clarity and brightness. The firefly reticle on the Bushnell is a good feature at dark but for all day shooting I believe it is too large for precise shot placement. All in all I would choose the Bushnell 4200 over the Conquest. I would go even further and say that you should compare the clarity of the Nikon over the Conquest. The only problem with Nikon is a smaller field of view but that hasn't presented any problems to date. In the price range of the scopes that you have listed, I would not forget about the Leupold VXII. For around $300.00 you can have a 3 x 9 x 40 in that brand and for overall brightness and clarity and adjustments you can't beat the new VXII. Don't settle for a VXI, it won't be the scope that you need.   Just my opinion......

Zeiss Conquest or Bushnell Elite 4200, I say you cannot go wrong with either one.
