I wonder which scope with magnifications around 1-4x, 1.5-6x, 1.5-8x, 1-6x etc would work on a Marlin. This is how it looks like:

Would an Elite 6500 1.5-8x be a good alternative? Any other brands or choices  to recommend?

I take it that it is a lever action picture unav.

Personal opinion is the anything under a 28 mm or maybe a 32 looks best.

The bigger objective bells feel akward on a mianly open sight gun it feels you need to mount it low.

As far as what you want to do with it for hunting which is what you want to do with the marlin. I would used something like this.

5 inches of eye relief. Used to be the short mag series but now made in ???.

If I were paying the extra for either of the above scopes i would go ahead and get it in german #4 instead of the duplex.

these classic scope do well.

a lever action is a great all around rifle for bush hunting, but with the new ammo, can be used for longer shots.  you can find very low profile see through mounts that can give you the ability to use the scope and your fixed sights without having to crane your head to look through the scope.  I have them on my 336 marlin 30-30 with a 4x burris scope.  perfect set up.  ob. diameter about 32 mm.  would not trade it for anything.  try it.  the only thing you have to lose, is the mount, which are less than 15 bucks.  go for it.  you will not regret it.

Some scope mounts (i.e. Leupold one piece mount) have too much distance between rings for many short barreled scopes.  Check this before you buy a mount and scope and then have it not fit the rings because they are 4 inch centers apart.

I have a Marlin .357 mag that looks a lot like that one.  I put a Sightron 1.25-5x20 on it and it is a perfect match for that rifle.  It looks good and gives you a great power range for short to medium range shots.  I mounted it for 40 rounds of hot loads on my 45-70 and it worked just fine, so it is tough as well.

Mostly wild boar, but it could be some deer at times.
