I have a new, factory Remington 700 SPS in 30-06 ($550), and a new Leupold VX3 3.5-10x 50mm ($550), and am new to all of this.
No plans to get fancy with any of it - and only ever want to be able to get on 12"x18" at 600yds.

So which (non quick-detach.) base/rings do I want?
What price range would be 'appropriate'?
What is the lowest height rings I can get away with, with that 50mm objective lens?

Thanks for any help/advice!
(And item-specific recommendations/links would be great!)

Not sure if your scope is 1" but they make the same thing in 30mm as well.

When it comes to detachable rings many in the know consider La Rue to be the best.Tallies are also very good!I've owned both & would take the LaRue over anything else.

Isn't $40 'too cheap'?  A number of people have told me I should be up in the $100-$200 range, or I'll be buying crap that I'll regret...

Don't want detachable.  Does that change your recommendation?

A fool and his money is easily seperated.   Don't think that you can't get good stuff for cheaper prices.  I have talley mounts on several rifles, ranging from cost of $3000 - $3000+ and never an issue.  Talley's are good to go.

OK thanks.

How about the height issue (w/ the 50mm)...is your recommendations for a Medium-height a guess or do you feel pretty solid about that?

Price is not always an indicator of quality. Just look at the Countersniper scope. Shocked
I like the Talley's also.

Yes I am confident, but you could always call SWFA for confirmation.

I have Talleys on a 45-70 that gets a constant dose of heavy loads and also on a 7lb 300 wsm.  THey have been just fine.  I highly recommend Talley as well.
