I'm buying a Ruger 10/22 and thinking of topping it off with either a Leupold VX-I 2-7x28 or a Weaver 2.5-7x28 or a Vortex Diamondback 2-7x35 rimfire scope. Which way do you think I should go, any other good choices I missed?
Thanks,
Sam

I have the Weaver on my 22.  Really like it.  Pretty good for the money.  I did a test on a Diamondback.  Here is the review.

Nothing wrong with any of the scopes.  I guess my nod goes to the Weaver at this point.

Thanks helo,

Actually I've been eying the Weaver, glad to hear you think it's a good bang for your buck? BTW, good review on the Vortex Diamondback.

The vortex is a nice scope, and you would not have the problem I had with a bolt clearing the ocular.  I personally would take the Weaver or Vortex before the Leupy.

Thanks again helo,
If you were to choose between the Weaver or Vortex which would you choose?

All three are good companies. I'm a huge fan of putting Weavers on rimfire rifles and sight unseen (Haven't used the Leupold) I'd bet that the Leupy VXI and the Weaver are pretty close. The Weaver is a good scope.

Tough choice.  You could flip a coin.  I think I would give my nod to the weaver though.

+1 on the Weaver, my .22 is accurate as balls, and the Weaver plays its part.

Thanks guys for the information. Also, I noticed that the Leupold costs almost twice as much as a comparable Weaver, is the Leupy over priced or is it actually optically and/or mechanically better than the Weaver?

If you handle both of them, and I have, you can easily tell the Leupold is a better built product.  That being said, I bought the Weaver to go on my Remington 504 and it is great.  I didn't, and still don't, see any need to spend that extra money on a rimfire (and I'm a Leupold guy).

I have a Leupold compact 3-9x32 on mine that I bought years ago. Great scope, no idea what they cost now.

Mike,
Thanks for the review but what exactly do you mean when you say that the Leupold seemed to be better built than the Weaver?
Thanks again,
Sam

Look for a Burris 3-9X32 AO rimfire rifle scope.  Mine cost me $269 (OFF OF SWFA), it was $100 less than the same power Leupold.  It's a great little scope.  It sits on my tricked out 10/22 (Tac Sol barrel and Varq trigger group).
