Which reticle do most prefer for target and varmint work?  I will be purchasing a Leupold 6.5-20 with either a target dot or duplex reticle for target and occasional varmint use and was curious as to various opinions on the issue.

I prefer Target dot or straight Fine Crosshair(no duplex) for benchrest competition or prairie dogs.  The duplex is what I prefer for big game scopes but not fine work.

I agree with Horse, Mil-dot may also be an option.

I would stick with a cross hair in that case. It gives me a reference to keep me from canting my gun.

Stick with a plex reticle.  Dots are great but if you ever want to use it in low light (dawn/dusk) the dot becomes hard to see.  I had one on a deer rifle and took it off the first evening of season.  My dot is in a Sightron BS but I'm guessing it would be similar with a Leupy.  I know, dumb a#* for not trying it at dusk prior to opening day of season!Hammer

If you're sure you won't want to swap it to a different rifle for a different use someday, then I think you'd like a dot.....just not as versatile to me.

You can get the Leupold 6.5-20 in "thin duplex". My old varixIII 6.5-20x50 had one and I really liked it for long distance shooting.
