This is a follow up question to an earlier post. I want to put some sort of red dot scope on my shotgun for my brother to use during spring turkey. I'm waffleing between the holographic versus standard tube design. Since he'll be inside a portable blind, in the woods, and moslty early low light mornings, I'm not too concerned about the washout affect often stated about the holographic types.

It needs to withstand turkey loads, Field of View is very important but not magnification, and I don't want something the size of a beer can either. I'm not wanting to break the bank but will these cheap NcStar or BSA units hold up to a heavy recoil? I don't want it to come flying apart after the first shot but he'll probably be the only one using it.  Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

With the cheaper units you sometimes get a great one and sometimes like you said it will be FUBARed after shot number 1  You get what you pay for in optics.  Dont expect a $50 red-dot to hold up or even maintain accuracy like a more expensive quality one.  I still recommend the burris speed bead for this.

I would look at the Vortex Strikefire ($150, lifetime warranty), or the Primary Arms ($80-120, 1yr warranty), both are somewhat "copies/fake" of aimpoints.  I would lean to the Strikefire b/c of warranty.  I've only used them on ARs and AKs but they are said to be very reliable.  On the BSA, etcs I've often heard second hand that the versions with the single dot are more reliable than the versions with the multi recticle choices.

I used Bushnell Trophy 1x28 for one season and the switched to Docter red point. Now there is no way of getting back. My advice would be to spend a little more money and buy something good.
