ok, i'm in a mental jam. i'm not sure if i should get the 10, 16, or 20 power scope. when i was overseas, i was so used to having a 10x scope(m3a on a m24). i remember 900m targets were pretty small.  the local free range is only 100yds, but i will be trying to get my skills back so i can compete in 600-1000yd matches.  it is that last part that makes me debate whether i should get a higher power.

any ideas???

Hello, Jeff.

I appreciate your service!! Thank you!

The 16x has half the FOV compared to the 10X, if thats any concern.

The 10x rear focus seems to be the most popular.

10x is the 'practical-tactical' choice, from what i gather around here.

Thanks for your Service.

As for the SS scopes I started with a 20x and it is more workable than one might think however the most noticable shortcoming is that it has a small exit eye pupil so  - rather dark in lower light but still useable. It would be perfect for shooting prairie dogs. The 10x is the most popular for good reason it is a relatively bright scope with good glass and reliable adjustments. I have two of the 10x one is an M series side focus model and the side focus is a nice option and easier to adjust than the rear focus. The rear focus is less money and less bulky - one less knob on the side to catch on brush. A 10x scope at 1000yds is like open sights at 100 yds. I have an 8.5-25x50 Leu Mk4 M1 knobs and as it gets dark I can turn the power down but on the range at distance it is nice to have the higher power. For true tactical use it's probably a bit much, a 4.5-14x50 would be a better choice but the point is that a high power variable doesn't suffer the same problem in lower light that a high power fixed power does. Bushnell came out with a highpower variable that may be of interest but I have not seen one.   >

I doubt it is as tough as a Super Sniper but 4200 Bushnell glass is generally accepted as good. The .308 rifle I'm carrying with me has the SS 10x rear focus if that tells you anything.
