I have a Bushmaster AR-15 Target Model (flat-top w/20'' barrel and a fixed front site).  I'd like to put an optic with an illuminated recticle, that can be used at extended ranges reliably (ex. around 300 yards or a bit more, if possible), but is still quick to shoot at closer ranges (ex inside 100 yards).  Without breaking the bank, what do you guys think that I should consider???

Cool

Define, "breaking the bank."

There are some here who want what you want and have $300 to spend - and it is doable - and there are others who want what you want and have $3,000 budgeted.  Be specific, and we can do the same.

As much as I'd love to put an ACOG on this rifle, I really struggle spending roughly $1K or more for a scope, especially since that much money is hard to come by these days.  Thus far my biggest optics purchase was an Eotech 552.  I know that going cheap on a scope is a poor strategy.  However, I haven't been able to get myself to spend much more than probably $500/$550 on optics when for the same price, you can pick-up another firearm for the same price.

Illumination in that price range is the challenge.

I've heard great things but don't own one and ahve not shot one.

Just beyond your price range is Trijicon accupoint and a few others.

Millett has a few options in your range and with what you want; however, Millett is having some issues now and I cannot recommend them.

My advice would be to save up and get exactly what you want.  If you don't, you'll still want it and will regret getting something else.

If Acog is what you want, save a little longer for the Acog, it is a good optic.  Consider the Accupoint too though.
