I am fixing to put a scope on my Ruger .270 - I have 2 there at the house to choose from -

a - Sightron SII 3.5x10x42
b - Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40

Of these 2 which would you prefer?I think I'll use one of these to keep from buying another scope.

....................To refresh your memory, look through both (outside), at the same time and in the lower light, to determine which one is the best to your eyes optically and go with that one.

The magnification differences between the two, 3.5x10 vs 3x9, are close enough as to not make much of a difference either way on your 270.

Or you could trade both in for a Bushnell 4200 4-16x40 with side focus and have a scope that you can see the holes in your target when you are practicing. If I stayed with them I would use the Sightron, I'm not a big Burris fan.

Vote #2 for the sightron, I also am not a fan of the fullfield II.  Don't like the power ring.

I like most Burris but not the 3-9 FFII  Sad  go with the sightron. If you had the 4.5-14 FFII it would be a different answer.

I gotta go with the Burris in this case.  But if you could trade them for the 4200 it would be a good step up.

It depends on how you hunt as to what power range is righ. The 3-9 is the most popular and is very versitle but to give up one on the bottom and gain 7 on the top end is huge so I am a big fan of the 4200 in a 4-16x40 as you can still use it at 4x and it has adjustable parallax and knobs that can be dialed in like target knobs to correct for trajectory.  The flip side is if you really hunt stalking a 1.5-6x42 scope is a better choice than a 3-9x40.
Here is another scope I really like for a hunting scope:
8185 Kahles 3-10x50 Helia CL Multizero 51723, Matte finish, 1" tube, plex reticle, side focus, fast focus eye piece, allows you to zero your scope at five different ranges, close to new condition. $1,315.00 $749.95
8235 Kahles 4-12x52 Helia CL Multizero 51733, Matte finish, plex reticle, 1" tube, side focus, fast focus eye piece, allows you to zero your scope at five different ranges, close to new condition. $1,392.00 $799.95
