I need a new scope for a Ruger m77 in 7x57 mauser. It is used strictly for hunting big game and at ranges from 10-300 yds. it does see alot of low light use. the catch is, it has to be gloss, and it has to be in the 200.00 range. right now I've got it narrowed down to
1) Burris ff2 3-9x40
2) Sightron S1 3-9x40
3) Swift reliant 3-9x40
which one of these 3 would you recommend or if there is any that I have not mentioned please include them! As always, I appreciate your help!

3_tens.... I agree 100% and actually have that scope.... it would be my hands down choice, except I need something with a gloss finish, and that is seriously hampering my options!

While I would buy a fixed power Leupold if I had to have gloss I have a hard time recommending the simmons but some guys have had good luck with Aetec line.

Of the three you listed I would definitely go with the Burris. IMHO a very nice scope for the $$ paid and a top choice in the $200 and less range.

If you are considering a Swift, you should look over the Premier line instead of the Reliant line.  Premier is a real value.

My choice is the FFII, it is a proven very reliable and the optics are very serviceable.

Can you stretch to $300.00 or is that out of the question?

Out of those three you listed, I would go with the FFII.  I absolutely love mine.  But you should look at the Vortex Vipers as well.

I actually have a handful of Burris ff2's and I do love them. never had any problems with them...I've never had any dealings with a swift or sightron, and was curious if they were on par with the Burris or not.. Looking like they are not!

I noticed SWFA recently put a sale on a few of the Gloss Leupolds.. there are certainly better options out there though, and i'd place optics quality higher than the gloss apperance. Big Smile

yea, I started thinking about that a little while ago, and its absolutely true...no point in sacrificing quality for appearance.... thanks grim!

The reason I ask is that Sightron is doing a $75.00  rebate right now on the SII Big Sky series scopes and they make a 3-9X42 in Gloss for $379.00 so $304.00 after rebate. If you want gloss to match a rifle you probably won't find much better than this. If you can settle for matte this same scope is $319.00 or $244.00 after rebate. IMHO you would have to go Zeiss Conquest or better to beat the quality of this scope. I have the matte model and love it. It has a very classic look with a nice shape that looks great on any rifle. While the FFII is a good scope ( I've owned many) it doesn't come close to the optical quality of the SII Big Sky.

That Sightron sounds like the way to go. That being said I have a Burris FFII and love it so it's not a bad scope.
