Hi Guys,

My first post here.

I got an SWFA SS 1-6 and I want to mount it to my flattop AR-15. Which mount should I get? I like the AD mounts but don't know the proper height. I am assuming that I will need a cantilever mount.

Thanks,

Sergey

Welcome to Optics Talk and congratulations on a fine purchase.

I have used and really liked the Bobro slightly forward mount. I had it with a SS 1-4x and it performed wonderfully.
I bit hinky to set up, but worth the trouble.

Both Bobro and LaRue make great quick detachable mounts. If you wont need to take it off Aadland makes a super sturdy mount.    I also like the slightly forward  mount.

I have the Aadland mount on my AR and it is the only mount I will ever use on an AR rifle.  There are other mounts that have as much "clamping force" as the Aadland, but they cost a whole lot MORE...   It is absolutely the best value out there, if you are setting up a truly all capability tactical rifle.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the support, however my 20 MOA mount is not my first choice for this scope.  With the SWFA 1-6X, like many 1-X scopes, having the erector that far from optical center causes noticeable degradation in optical performance when used on 1X in "both eyes open" situations.

Any of the better 0 MOA QD mounts is a good choice for this scope.  My favorite is the Bobro, which is what I was using for my 1-6X SS.

My 1-6X SS currently sits in something I have not yet offered for sale but could any time I guess--as soon as I find time to put it on my website.  I'm calling it my "Select-A-Slope" system.  It consists of a 35mm Mount with a matched set of tapered composite 30mm inserts which add or subtract slope from the system.  I have inserts for 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 MOA total slope.

It is mainly geared toward the Extreme Long Range guys with Barretts, DTA's, etc., who want to maximize the travel in their scopes.  But with the 0 MOA insert it does work better with 1-X scopes than the straight 20 MOA mount.  It's bigger and more expensive than needed for the job, but it certainly works.

I do have plans for a smaller, lighter 0 MOA mount in the future, but it'll be quite some time before we're caught up enough to offer those.

Jon... 'splain. I'm using it with a 1-4 right now and there is no degradation in performance. For me it is absolutely perfect. When I bring the AR up, I have the center of the reticle dead-on target, both eyes open. It is the one saving grace for the AR...

Different scopes are affected differently.  The SS 1-4X is less sensitive than the 1-6X.  I don't feel you lose anything with the 1-4X as it's not really noticeable.

With the 1-6X, however, "the images diverge" if that makes any sense--for my eyes there is more of a tendency to see double image with both eyes open instead of the image through the scope merging with the image from your other eye as one.  It should be noted, of course, with many lower quality 1-X scopes you see the images as double no matter what.  But it generally gets worse as you crank more elevation or windage into the scope.

OK, I can grasp that, though I have never experienced it.  Definitely something to be on the lookout for. Thank you for the heads up.
