I am stuck between weatherby sporter 257 and a tikka t3 270wsm.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Does anyone make a conversion kit for detachable magazine for weatherby sporter?

From your handle, it seems like you already made up your mind.  Smile

I prefer the feel of the Tikka, but it seems both rifles have a pretty good reputation for accuracy and quality construction.  I perfer the 270 WSM caliber as well.

Sorry I can't help with a maqazine conversion for the Weatherby.

i'm just not a Tikka fan.... they just seem too lite for my tastes.  I am a tad sensitive to recoil though.

I know a guy in Africa who shot a leopard with one shot from a 22 LR.   I saw the hide.

Not enough information to make a real recommendation.

Are we talking about the inherent likes/dislikes of the guns or the calibers or both?

I can say that I am a vocal Tikka fan, even to the point now of buying a T3 lite, tossing the stock and (very accurate) barrel and going full custom with the action - which, by the way, are fantastic.

Regarding the caliber, I have a 270, I like the round and the authority with which it hits; however, the 257 I've loaded for friends is absolutely scream'in!  And, as you square the "v", they aren't equivalent in most respects.

That said, unless you reload, your Weatherby ammunition comes from Weatherby and is crazy expensive.  The same is not true of the 270, which has much ammo everywhere.

And though I agree neither is a great long-range hunter, in the true sense of long range; getting a round on target faster has MUCH value in a hunter.

How much does a Sporter cost new? Is it close to a T3 Lite? In what condition is the Weatherby?

And you can probably find new bottom metal, but I haven't looked for it before so do not know that for certain.

while trying to figure out what caliber to get  next  I do have a left handed tikka in 270 wsm. it shoots realy good with a 4x-14 Nikon on it,  it shoots 140 nosler accubounds in .52  with three rounds.  scope and rifle weights about 7.4   yesterday I shot it  thirty times at the range in  the  afternoon.  I don't like recoil and I just had shoulder surgery about six months ago.
