I'm looking to get the best spotting scope I can for around 500$. The Three I have narrowed it down to are the Nikon Spotter XL 16-47X50, The Leupold Gold Ring 15-30X50 compact and the Burris Signature 18-45X60. I do a lot of high mountain mule deer so I'm looking for compact but as clear as possible. I'm leaning towards the Leupold. Has anyone used any of these and what are your Opinions? Anything will help. thank you.

The Nikon is an excellent choice. In the same price range I would give the B&L Elite 15-45x60 a hard look with the Rainguard lens coatings. I own one of these and for the money I think you would be very happy with this scope as well. For hunting, either scope are are great values. The big advantage with the B&L is the Rainguard feature. Both scopes are light, compact and have excellent optics!!!

Check out the Kowa line as well, they are around $500 other then the Leica, Swarovski the Kowa is next in line as a good spotter.

Hey Stephanie, submoa wrote;"I do a lot of high mountain mule deer so I'm looking for compact but as clear as possible".

I think the Nikon he was looking at and the Elite 15-45x60, both rubber armored, lightweight and compact would be better suited for his application, in my opinion. I have no hands on experience with the Kowa and I am not doubting your optics knowledge for one second. I have a Elite 15-45x60 spotter(what a surprise) and for hunting, I love it. The Nikon looks like it's twin. Take care, hope all is well.

The Nikon and B&L are out of the same factory.  Nikon changed the power to get around B&L's exclusivity.  15-45 vs. 16-47  B&L has rainguard as mentioned but the Nikon has two cases and a SLIK tripod if you get the kit.

B&L Elite 15-45x60.....$399.95 Comes with coupon for FREE $100 gear bag (nice)

Nikon 16-47x60 XL Kit.....$419.95 (closeout priced.....super deal while they last)

I have the smaller Leupold Gold Ring spotter (10-20X40) and absolutely love it. I can't imagine the 15-30 model would be anything less than stellar as well.
