I recently purchased a Noveske Recce AR for general purpose shooting 10-200yds, majority of shooting will be 25-100yds. I planned to use my iron sights or a Aimpoint T-1, but my eyes (nearsighted w/astigmatism corrected to 20/20 with glasses) just don't give me enough visual acuity to be very accurate. So I decide on an ACOG since I have other more accurate rifles with higher magnification optics.

I have looked through the TA11J, TA33R-8, several TA31's and have shot the TA45R-4. I really like the red crosshair reticle as I feel it gives me a more precise aiming point, but recently found an incredible deal on the TA33R-8 which I took. Well it turns out the company I ordered from (not SWFA) canceled my order because they couldn't get it in stock.

So now that there is not a huge price advantage of one over the other I am trying to make my mind up between the TA33R-8 or TA50R-4 in 3x or possibly the TA45R-4 in 1.5x. Weight and size are a big deal which is why I'm not getting a TA11J. I really liked the size of the TA45 I shot, but think I would prefer the 3x magnification of the TA50.

My question to those who have used the TA33 and TA50, is there a big difference in eye relief or ease of getting behind the scope between the two? I'm not a nose to charging handle guy, so eye relief matters some. Also is there any other quirks or good qualities about these scopes that make one superior to the other? Thanks

If your looking for easier to see aiming point I would say go with the 4x models.  The 3.5x models have much better eye relief but the reticle is smaller.  I got rid of my 3.5x ta11R because I lost the reticle against anything but a plain backdrop.  My 4x TA31F has the same reticle but much easier to see and use.  My opinion anyway

I have the three scopes above.  As for the TA33R8 it has 1.9 inches eye relief and is a little larger scope. The TA50R4 has 1.4 inches of eye relief but I use it in a La Rue RCO mount which brings it all the way back on the  CAR 15. Of the ones I have I am not wild about the fact that the TA01B does not have fiber optic however it is a balistic reticle for .308 where all the rest are .223.  I really like the TA442 the best because the triangle gives a large bright aiming point with a very precise point at the top and I find that I am sub moa at 300 yds with that 1.5x the only thing I dont like about the TA442 is that the amber washes out when pointed toward a streetlight at night where red might not. You really have to watch how much eye relief and how wide the field of view is on these models as the 1.5x is a lot wider field of view than a 3x so for up close it is a better choice.  The TA50R4 has a 28.9 ft wide field of view at 100 yds and the TA442 has a 39ft wide field of view at 100 yds with 2.4 inches of eye relief.  What that means is you are almost 40 ft wide at 100 or almost 20 ft wide at 50 yds or almost 10 ft wide at 25 yds so if you are engaging pop up targets or anything that moves at 25 you are better off with the wider field of view. At long distance you need more power but I can work just fine with the 1.5x at well past 300 yds so it is my favorite but like I said I might get the red version if you are using it at night in an urban area.

I went to my local range today and lo and behold they had the 2x TA47 and the 3x TA50 for me to play with. I think the TA50 is out, the eye relief is way too short. I really liked the 2x and think that may be a good compromise. I can shoot pretty well at 50-100 with my irons, so the crosshair reticle and the magnification should allow me to shoot to 200 without too much trouble. I think I'm going to shop by price and get whichever is cheaper between the TA45R-4 or TA47R-4.

I also looked through the TA33 today and agree that the reticle is too small. I'm glad the order didn't go through.

Thanks for the responses, I really appreciate the help.
