I'm thinking about getting a fixed 6x42 scope, and was wondering which models I should consider in the $400. range. Quality is important as I have some higher optics. |

The first 6x scope in that price range that comes to mind is the SS 6x with $100 left over.
(I haven't seen the 6x admittedly, but it's been a fan favorite of this illustrious forum.)

That one may work, so tell me more about it. Where is it made and anybody who has compared it to others? The main one I have found in this range is the Leupold VX3. |

If mainly hunting is the objective, the FX3 is the king in this price range IMO. Tough, reliable, bright, easy to mount.

The SS is made in Japan. I don't believe the VX-3 is available in a fixed six power. However Leupold does have a handful of fixed six's available in the FX-II line and in the FX-3 line up as well. |

If you want external turrets or close range focusing:
I have one of these and I a a big fan. It is fairly large for this configuration, but very well built, bright and clear. The turrets are 100% repeatable which is a nice bonus. $300 for this scope is a steal. For a streamlined hunting scope, Leupold FX-3 is an excellent option and I like the heavy duplex reticle for low light: If you are up to paying a little more for a boost in image quality, try this IOR: Or this Meopta: There are some other scopes out there, but if you want a fixed 6x, I would be looking at one of these. I have played with all four, I still own the SWFA SS, which sits on my airgun owing to its excellent close focusing ability. ILya
