I read a couple earlier posts that this question is really a combination of:

Here's the scenario:

I already own a 338 that I use for elk and am getting a 375HH for moose/bear (which is really a stretch to think I would get buy off to hunt them more than once every 4 years).  With that said I am looking for a scope for the 375 and was thinking of either a Swaro, Khales or Leupold in 1.5-6.  This is really a question of function over fashion in addition to the practical question of which should I buy for a scope that will see limited action over its lifetime, the question is..."is the 1.1x4 a better choice regardless of brand than the 1.5x6?"  Asthetically I don't really care for the scopes w/out the bell on either end which is why I ask.  Which reticle is also preferred by those who hunt big bear or moose?

Secondly, I'm assuming that in this caliber and these choices we're talking about 30mm tubes?  Was also contemplating the EAW scope mounts for the ability to detach them in a second, any thoughts here are welcome as well.

The likely locations for the hunt are British Columbia and Alaska, not Africa.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

i would get the lowest power leupold vari-xIII, it will perform great on that gun. as for 30mm, its not nessesary. but if thats what you want they offer the 1.5-5 with a illuminated reticle. they offer the standard rings, and bases as a promotion, and i would just use those, becuase since you can crank it down to 1.5x i dont see a need to detatch.

my $.02

The only need to detach is if *%$ hits the fan.  In other words if your scope breaks and you need to keep shootin'.  Most 30mm scopes are more robust and built to handle dangerous game recoil.  For what you are doing I would consider a 1.5-6x42 over a 1.1-4 or 1.75-4.  You will most likely use the 5x and 6x more than you will need the 1.1x and the 42mm objective produces a larger exit pupil through out the power range making it fast and easy to use.  A heavy reticle or a circle reticle is most popular but not a necessity.  A 4a or plex in a 1.5-6x42 could be recycled into an excellent whitetail scope on another gun.  Consider these two if you want to go Euro.

Kahels 1.5-6x42 4a....$938.99

Swarovski 1.5-6x42 Professional Hunter with the #24 reticle......$1328.99

Look at these if you want to keep the price down.

Nikon Monarch Gold 30mm 1.5-6x42 German #4......$499.99

Leupold 1.75-6x32 VX-III Heavy Duplex....$399.95
