Chris,
So hopefully these will appear on your website sometime tomorrow. If I were to order the ED2's from you is the 20% pre-order discount still apply in addition to your lower (then manufacturer) price? I am just debating on which site to order from and 20% off would obviously be significant. Thanks to everyone for the replies to my question. |

We are working out the details now with Zen Ray and I can assure you that you will be able to buy them from us for less money than you will from them directly.

Hmm, I've already ordered from Zen-Ray so I'm not going to cancel unless the difference is substantial which IMO, I don't think will be. But its great that SWFA will be carrying them. Surely my next pair will be from SWFA.

We've been negotiating with them for a little while and drug our feet a little longer than we should have due to unforeseen circumstances here at SWFA. Our intent on updating ya'll in this thread was not to get anyone to cancel any orders that have been placed elsewhere, it was to inform ya'll that we are becoming a Zen Ray dealer as we speak and procure any future business that may exist.

Well, the Zens are up on SWFA now. No pictures yet though. Does SWFA have staff/gear for doing product shots or do you solely rely on the mfg?

We have staff and equiptment to do them if the mfg. does not have quality images, but today almost all of them do. The images are there they are just not showing up yet because our site has not synched with our servers yet.

Chris,
Since there is about 11 days left until the release of the ED2's from the manufacturer do you think there is a chance you may be taking the pre-orders as well? I realize by reading your posts that you are still in the process of negotiating. If there is a chance I will wait to order with you rather than direct. |

The ED2's should be on our site by tomorrow and you can place an order to go on back order.
The major differences between ZEN ED2 and first generation ED are the following features on ED2
1) CrystalView Water/Oil repellent coating
2) VividBrite Ultra high reflectivity dielectric prism coating (ZEN ED has silver prism coating)
3) Speed-Dial Fast focus (ZEN ED takes 2.5 turn to dial from close focus to passing infinity, where ED2 takes only 1.75 turn). Edited by Chris Farris - July/23/2009 at 13:31 |

So is Zen-Ray going to keep the ED1 line in production or will it start to get phased out once the ED2 line is released?

Also, it might be a good idea to invite Zen-Ray to this forum to answer any product related questions directly. I think they have a presence on other forums.

Hello, I am Charles from Zen-Ray Optics. I want to thank everyone in the discussion of our products. It feels great to see that the thing we produce really make a difference out there. I am grateful that Chris invited me to participate this great internet forum. It's been a great experience to work with Chris and his team to introduce Zen-Ray products to SWFA customers. From that experience, I know why customers raved about SWFA. I view this partnership as great news to any potential customers: the first class customer service from SWFA backed by the first class aftersale support through Zen-Ray warranty program.
With regard to launch date for ED2, we expect to start sending out the packages on August 8. I believe SWFA will concurrently fullfil its orders around that same time frame. And, yes, we will keep the original ED line (8x43 and 10x43). With its excellent performance/cost ratio, many people will find ED1 very attractive alternative if you are not looking for the newest and the greatest.
In addition to the three major technical advancement on ED2 as mentioned by Chris, we also made numerous improvements based on customers' feedback. For example, neckstrap is shortened so with quickconnect the binoculars will stay hung around chest for easy access. The objective lens covers also fit better to the barrels. In addition to the faster focus wheel, we also applied higher grade lubricant to enhance the low temperature operation of the binoculars.
Hopefully, I have covered most of the questions related to the upcoming products. Please feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

I think this will be a great situation for both Zen and SWFA. Charles, thanks for stopping by, and I hope you'll visit this site often. I'd like to ask you a dumb question, no insult intended.....Just how committed are you to customer service? Obviously great products lose some value with poor customer service, so I'm hoping you guys are as committed to the customer as you are to offering superb optics. Thanks again.

JGRaider, thanks for the welcome. Providing excellent customer service is the core of the Zen-Ray foundation. We are very much commited to it. Apart from apparent business reason, I look at customer service commitment from another angle. First and foremost, Zen-Ray is taken care of by our customers from the moment you make a purchase. It's our turn to take care of our customers from that point on. In addition, just put ourselves into customers' shoes, we work with them with integrity and respect just like how we want to be treated as consumers ourselves.

Hey Zen-Ray, is it just Charles that uses the Zen-Ray account or will we see different people using it on the forum?

Welcome to the forum, Charles!
It is great to have a manufacturer available to answer questions. I look forward to checking out the 7x36 ED2. It is a nice configuration. ILya

Nice to see Zen-Ray banners up now on SWFA. I don't think I've seen any banners for Zen-Ray products before. Must be a first.

Thanks. Yes, I will be the only one speaking here on behalf of the company. BTW, excellent job doing a size comparison illustration on 7x36.
Ilya, thanks for the welcome too. I look forward to hearing your feedback once we get them out. |

Thanks but I wish my Zen-Ray data was more accurate. I don't think there are any official specs on size on the zen-ray website. I found the 7x36 dimensions on a birdforum post where the poster had ask you the question via email so with that many degrees of separation, I'm not sure I got it quite right.

I want to get a pair of these new Zen Ray binos but cant decide between The 7x36 or 8x43. Can I buy both from SWFA and look them over and then send one back for a refund? Would a 8x43 Vortex Viper be better than a Zen Ray ED2 8x43 for a hunting bino if I could get them for the same price?
