I love the fixed 6x scopes.  Is Nikon doing away with them? I could not find them under Khales either. any info would be appreciated.

Appreciate it. I don't know that I need the extra adjustment the 30mm allows, but for the price, it looks great.

Are you the same Cheaptrick that posts to the E-boats page? I f so Iam Ol,Peg from Georgia. I just built the GF 16 Jon Boat. She runs great with a Johnson 25.

The Leupolds are a good choice, too. They have gone to multicoat on both the 36 and 42mm versions. My 6x42 is crystal clear, bright and solid as a rock.

If you can still find one, the Monarch would be an excellent choice.

Kahles is the best hunting scope I have ever had and 6x42's are an optimum combination of power and objective size. They are bright and very forgiving when lining up in the field.

No Sir.

I do not think the Monarch 6x42 was very popular, so I would not be surprised if they are discontinued.

There is still a nice assortment of serviceable 8x scope in varying price ranges:

Weaver K6 6x38 -- inexpensive and pretty decent
Burris Fullfield II 6x40 -- just slightly more expensive than the Weaver and a step u pin glass, I think
Sightron S2 6x42 -- this is the bang for the buck king of the class and it is now updated with Big Sky improvments.
Leupold FX-II 6x36 -- I am not a big fan of this one.  It is not any better than the three above (and worse than Sightron) and costs        more
Leupold FX-II 6x42 -- this is a pretty nice scope.  Lots of eyerelief and many reticle choices.
IOR 6x42 -- there are two varieties: hunting and tactical, both with 30mm tubes but with different turrets and reticles.  The  glass
compares well to much more expensive stuff.  Kahles 6x42 is not any better, for example.
Meopta Artemis 2000 6x42 --  I do not know much about this one.
Kahles ZF95 6x42 -- nice, but expensive
Swarovski Professional Hunter 6x42 -- nice, but expensive
Zeiss Classic 6x42 --  just came out, I think.  Pretty expensive.
Shmidt & Bender 6x42 -- great scope, but I am just not willing to sell my kidney to get one.

Thanks for all the replies.  I currently hunt with a Monarch 6 x 42, on my 7-08. I love the light gathering that this scope has provided. I just had another 7-08 built for my daughter and wanted to get another fixed scope. I am intrigued with the Leupold VX III 6 x 42, but was scared to try it.  I will look at the Kahles that is on the sample list to compare pricing with the leupold, as I don't expect to need the added range of adjustment provided with a 30mm. Thanks again for all the help.

I just bought a 6x42 Monarch from here about a week ago !!

Very nice scope for the money and if the recticle was only easier to see at dark it would stack up pretty well against my Ziess VM/V and Swarovski PV scopes......especially for the money !!
