Hello! Your help is need. It`s rather hard to find any info on old tactical scopes. My question is the following: what was the difference between two S&B 4x25 scopes? Unfortunately I can`t post images so I will try to explain the situation. First type had STANAG mounting systems and it looks like Hensoldt ZF4x24. It was used on HK weapon. The second type was mounted on AUG HBAR LMG, it was without STANAG mount. If you have any info on old S&B scopes please help!

Welcome to The OT.

I've PM'd our resident European optics expert to this thread. Hopefully he can answer your inquiry.

I'm not the expert cheaptrick is talking about, but....... There is no difference between the scopes. The H&K STANAG scope mount is a claw type mount that accepts STANAG scopes and is attached to H&K rifles or subguns. A STANAG scope attaches to the AUG 1st generation special reciever. Its the same scope (ZF4), just different ways of attaching to the AUG and H&K. There are studs on the bottom of the scope that fit into slots on the mount or reciever and bolts are screwed into the scope from under the mount/reciever, attaching the scope to the mount.
Steyr makes STANAG rings that attach to the special reciever so conventional scopes can be used.

Hi

I do only own and have only worked with the Stanag version, so I dont have any knowledge or experience of the other one.
But I assume it's the same scope, just sold in two various mounting options.

Stanag is NATO standard, and does not just means this actual mounting system.
This now outdated mounting system was used on a lot of other guns than H&K.
For exampel it was used on FAL, FN SNiper rifle and other sniperrifles in the 60th and 70th.
